Remember when Dak got his azz whooped in the parking lot. Him and his agent both need that for even thinking Dak is worthy of that kind of money.
Doesn't matter being the average annual salary over the four years for an NFL quarterback is $39 million, & the agreement contains a $27 million bonus. Mahomes makes $45 million a season in average annual salary. The longer Dallas waits, the higher quarterback's averages rise.

Not worth 40 mil. If they can do this deal and still build a stellar, championship-level defense, I'll eat my words and admit that I'm wrong. But however, they do things, IMO they need to build a high-quality defense. I don't want a team whose defense can't stifle other team's offenses and cause a lot of turnovers. That's how you win championships. I would take the 2000 Ravens over the 1981 Chargers any day. If you build up a really good offense, but your defense stinks, you're just running on a hamster wheel.

....kinda red tape glimmering. He hasn't played one down yet with rehab leg. Its still a 50/50 gamble. I luve Dak, but for the circumstances that exist. 40 a year is way out there, considering he hasn't performed with restructured leg.

It was already looking more & more like Cowboys weren’t completely convinced Dak was their “franchise” qb BEFORE the ankle blew up....
Now here we are....nobody’s even seen if he can run much less make it thru 4 quarters of 300lb defensive players falling on him.
I think JJ is gonna tag him & see how that ankle holds up thru the 2021 season before he offers him any kind of contract at all ....... much less a $40 million contract......Would YOU offer him a $35-$40 Million contract right now....Just roll the dice on that ankle with $35-$40 mill of YOUR money?? I Sure As Hell Wouldn’t.......

...tagging him, makes sense at this point. 40 a year depends how he does in 21'.

Haha, I just don't see how that's the market value for a player coming off a serious injury that many don't consider a top 5 player.

Dak Signing With Cowboys Will Take $40M Per Year - NFL Insider
Dallas, because of what the market bears, needs to wrap its collective head around the idea that Dak Prescott is now a "$40 million APY guy.'' That is, of course, unless ...

Another EXPERT coming out of the wood work telling all us Cowboy fans that it's going to take $40 million a year to sign Dak?????? Please, we all know he isn't worth that amount or any amount north of $30 mill a year. Dak is an average QB at best who had a great rookie season and nothing after that. All he yardage has com on the heels of playing weak *** teams in this league. When was the last time Dak lead the Boys to victory over a team with a winning record?????????????????? I rest my case................

if Fish is correct then Dak won't be in Dallas in 2021. They will do a sign and trade. Dallas just will not pay him 40 mil per. Now 37,38 mil per?..MAYBE.. big maybe.

Would a team like Jville come calling for Dak? What about a sign and trade to them for that number 1 pick and more draft picks?

Hard pass..

Do not participate in the market of stupidity please.

All of these stupid teams who signed their QB are trading away or watching their guys try to flee to another team.

Russel Wilson has even found out the hard way that it’s tough to build and he wants out too.

If we sign Dak for 35+ this team is screwed for a few years.

HA HA HA GL Dak finding that paycheck from anyone including Jerry!:muttley:

Dallas would do it..

I’m telling you the Jones’s are stupid.. Look at their recent deals.

They had brains when it came to Demarcus Ware, Dez, and Demarco but have suddenly got stupid again starting with that trash Zeke contract.

$40 million a year and then it's only a 4 year deal?

Yeah, tell Dak to pound sand, Jerry. Frankly I am not comfortable with him being a $40 million a player either, especially with him coming off that injury.

Well, more like the sooner we can start focusing on other parts of the teams and put this drama behind us.

Always drama with cowboys QB. They need to create a QB section so we can stop seeing the 10 threads a day regurgitation.

Yes, I totally agree with you and Flyinghorse, tag him this year and see how he plays. I would also like to add another dimension. I want to bring in a young QB either through the draft or trade to compete with him or start the developmental process. So I think it would be wise to tag Dak, and trade for Darnold with a mid round pick. Or use a mid round pick to draft a QB. Or bring in Trubisky or Jimmy G if he gets cut and signs for really cheap. Some way to bring in a young QB to be the back up and possible replacement if Dak can't play at a high level or plays well enough to demand 40+ million a year. Do not bring in another Andy Dalton who has been around for a while for this role. I'm talking about a young guy that could be here a while if Dak leaves or can't play. Trubisky, Darnold come to mind, but I'm not advocating for those two but that type of age range and former starter type and affordable.

I said it in another post, but someone like Cam Newton and he signed for 5-7 million and we traded Dak for 3 first rounders, then we can stock up on defense and oline in the draft and FA and let Cam be a bus driver. Cam, or trubisky, Darnold, etc.

I really like Dak and I wish this would work out. But if he is demanding 40 million a year. I don't know how you can justify paying championship money to a guy that hasn't won a championship or even been close. Drew Brees, Rodgers, Wilson, all these QB's are better than Dak and if you notice once they got the big money they haven't been to the super bowl. Tom Brady took team friendly deals when he was in NE and that seemed to work out for everyone.

Also another poster, sorry I can't remember who it is or I'd give them a shoutout, said that a Ravens esque defense and a bus driver QB is a better recipe than a prolific offense with a poor defense. I 100% agree with that. I think Jerry Jones has proven to Cowboys fans that a prolific QB putting up gaudy numbers can not overcome a bad defense. Check the Romo years and Dak's career for reference on that. Maybe a change in philosophy is in order.

Again, I like Dak, I'm a Dak fan but I am trying to look at this unemotionally and when I look at this unemotionally it just seems he may cripple the team with his demands and then he'll be blamed for the team's lack of playoff success, and I honestly don't want to go through another 4-10 years of that. If Stafford could get 2 firsts and a player then it's reasonable we can get 3 firsts, or at least 2 firsts and a player or two.

True, and whoever the QB ends up being, so will drama follow. And that I'd like to see! I'd like to see a separate section for Dak.
