Both Cavanaugh and Voch love this prospect and didn't know anything about him until Kiper put him in his top 25 big board. Both believe he is a first rd valued player and could be even be rated higher then Surtain based on their film study. However, I have heard Dane Bruglar say that their is a lot to work through with his character. Did enter the transfer portal twice while at LSU. A name to watch as this process plays out and another good Cover 3 fit.

Kelvin Joseph is a long perimeter cornerback prospect who should have the opportunity to develop into a starting outside option for a team. Joseph, who was an early entree into the 2021 NFL Draft, has the kind of length that is very popular right now in the NFL game and has been exposed to a number of different roles throughout the course of his career. He was charged with periodically following Florida TE Kyle Pitts but also has played deep third coverage against some of the more prominent offenses on the Wildcats' schedule—including Alabama. Joseph enjoyed a fruitful season at Kentucky and found the football on a number of occasions, illustrating down-the-field ball skills and effective contesting ability at the catch point. A former LSU Tiger, Joseph has about as slim of a resume as you can get; he played nine games for the Wildcats in 2020 after sitting out the 2019 season on account of transferring in from LSU and will take his talent to the pro game with just 20 total games played at the college level. Because of his inexperience, expect sporadic results in coverage and inconsistent recognition skills until he’s able to allocate more reps and increase his route combination awareness and add more polish to his technique. I wouldn’t endorse an early role, but the three-year projection looks much more favorable than the one-year forecast in 2021.

Ideal Role: Developmental starting outside cornerback.

Scheme Fit: C-3 or Quarters coverage frequency in zone. Can play press-man coverage for more aggressive defenses as well.

I like Kelvin Joseph and have picked him in several of my mock drafts. He left LSU because he was going to be the 4th corner behind Kriston Fulton,Darrell Stingley Jr,and Kary Vincent

I don’t get the hate for Surtain by the draft nicks. Every one complains about his play speed. Watching him play national televised games, he seemed to be the best cornerback on the field playing against the best wide receivers in the country. I have watched film clips on Surtain, Horne and Farley. The one thing I notice is I get 3 years of good tape from Surtain while Horne and Farley there are a few excellent plays the make that makes you go wow. I guess I am crazy but I would take the All American from Alabama over a few wow play players.

I need to see more tape on Joseph. He seems to have the tools. He might get drafted high based off of the buzz like the Raiders drafting the cornerback at 19 from Ohio State last draft. I heard he was a 3rd round prospect.

I've heard the name a few times but haven't read up on him or watched him enough. If there are character concerns pass.

I believe Surtain is going to become a similar player to Byron Jones on the next level, very solid, consistent, but never considered an elite player.

An elite corner this day and age, must travel and have high level ball skills. Stephon Gilmore is the type of player you look for. Takes on team's best receiver and has tremendous ball production on a year to year basis. A player like Farley, although somewhat of a projection has these type of elite traits. He has that unique ability to always turn his head, locate the football and makes plays on the ball. He can matchup against any type of receiver, big/small quick/fast with his physical traits.

Surtain doesn't possess those elite traits. Most consider his ball skills to be average and there are times on tape that he does indeed struggle with speed/quickness. He has the makings of a good player, but with a limited upside. You can say he played against top competition, but he also played on the best college team in football. Joseph can say the same thing as he had success against elite competition, but he didn't have the same type of defense Surtain had around him.

My position of CB's is 10 is I covet Farley. He could help fix a major deficiency our defense has had for years. Creating TO's. We have a couple players recently added to the secondary that have going in the right direction there. Diggs and Wilson. Farley could turn this into a strength. And TO's are critical in today's NFL

I would be fine with Surtain. I think he will be an excellent NFL CB. I just think Farley gives us more kf what we have been needing

I am more of a floor guy and also believe Trevon Diggs has All-Pro potential with his elite ball skills and length. I actually think we have our number 1 corner. I bet Diggs and Surtain pairing would eventually provide the best cornerback tandem in the NFL. Surtain is a walk in starter with no baggage or injury flags. Can’t say that about Horne, Farley and Joseph.

I want the best player over the life of the contract, not just year 1. Huge Farley guy as I have him as the #1 defensive prospect in the entire draft. Do like Surtain, but I feel you can find a similar corner later on that is less polished then him. Not a fan of Horn or Joseph, but think Melifonwu in rd 2, might be the better player in the long run at a discount price.

Really. You must not think much of the defensive players in this draft. Farley turns me off because of his lack of experience at the cornerback position and his injury history. Sitting out the season did him no favors. Farley is also a year older then Surtain. I think Surtain will go higher then Farley because teams are conservative when it comes to picking a high draft choice. I believe one of Surtain or Farley will be the pick for the Cowboys.

Good point on Surtain.

My opinion why is people see a coverage first type guy out of him, and a potential game changing type in Farley.

In the end, I do think Surtain goes higher, and Farley choice to sit out hurts him a bit.

he will be a mid round 2 steal for some team. At very least a starting nickel/slot corner day 1.

I guess I see can see Surtain and Diggs together because they played together in college. That is such an advantage. Farley will have to be ready because teams are going to attack him. I have to admit he does have potential because on tape he looks like a faster Diggs. The opt out and no mini mini camps scare me when it comes to Farley.

This is this years Mel Kiper special. Pumping him up to go higher than he should

We know Garrett struggled with coaching those bad character types. I'm not sure if MM is any better, but Quinn did have success with the Earl's, Sherman's of the world.
Well if the highest paid defensive player in team history didn't run around telling rookies not to worry about the coach because the owner is the boss....maybe the HC would have a shot at some respect.

Then again, who made Lawrence feel like he could say that?
