Should cowboys have traded a 3rd round pick for Wentz?

Serious question..

Would most GMs take Wentz over Dak still? I think so.
Hell no. This is silly.

if the Cowboys had a signed Dak and put it out here that we’d take a conditional 2nd and a third for Dak any team without a high dollar starting QB would line up and even some of them would as well.

I’m sure there are people who would’ve taken Romo over Eli Manning....they’d be ringless too.

Cmon dawg, you put Romo on those Giant teams and he'd have the same rings Eli got. Eli played some great playoff football but dude was the ultimate chucker who had receivers making historically great catches, meanwhile the sun got in Crayton's eyes.

I know its fun to hate on Wentz but the idea of getting him for a third or a second and having Philly paying a chunk of his contract as opposed to paying Dak a mega deal is not the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Of course I'd rather have Dak but the cap has to be navigated.

Bottom line is we blew this negotiation and now it will cost us. Dak was so garbage in 2017 I supported not paying him early. Then the second half of 2018 happened and I realized I dont know what the hell I'm talking about. Had we locked him in back then I'd like to think we'd have a greater overall appreciation for our QB1.

Here's the deal in a nutshell. The Indianapolis Colts gave a 2nd and a 3rd for Wentz and a conditional first later, if he meets 75 percent of the snaps in the regular season. It drops to 70 percent, if they happen to make the playoffs, then Philly gets a 1st round pick afterward. Does anyone think the Dallas FO would've agreed to that? I seriously think not. We'll need all the draft picks we can get our hands on and then some. We did well to pass, imho. o_O

no.
im not interested in down grading the most important position on the team....or trading away from having 2 3rd rd picks...which probably will go to the def side.

He could have been a good 2nd string backup that could’ve have learned behind Dak on how to be a better quarterback if we can only franchise tag him this year.
Assuming the rumors and reports out of Philly are true, why on earth would anyone think Wentz would come here and joyfully be a backup? Not to mention the enormous cap hit for a backup. I get the idea of having a backup plan if a long term deal can’t be worked out with Dak, but this ain’t it.

Romo was a better QB than Eli. Had he been playing for the Giants then he wins the same rings as Eli and gives them a better shot over the other years.

Well it was a 3rd and a 1st if he plays the requisite number of games.

I would rather draft a QB in the first or second round and ride the rookie contract.

Those Giant teams weren’t that good. Eli made some big plays in those runs he wasn’t some bus driver. Let me guess in 2007 the Giants were so much better than the Cowboys that they had a worse record?

their defense was much bettter. And it happened to play its best ball in the playoffs. Romo was better than Eli, hence having that defense (which was the catalyst) and an upgrade at qb in Romo, odds are they still win.

Think so?

I don’t think anyone is paying that for a QB that is only solid with not much upside in talent.

So you’re saying the reason why Romo rarely made the playoffs and when he did he struggled was because of his own defense?
