Neither the players or owners want the cap to decrease for several reasons.

That being the case, coupled with the new TV deal being in place (albeit for future years cap, not 2021), they will strike a deal to borrow from the future to prevent teams from needing to purge many players.

I expect the 2021 to eventually fall into line with the usual small increase.

When both sides need and want it....count on it.
So ignoring everything that happened in the world the last year is intelligent?

And you haven't answered the question. You throw all this out there but you connect no dots. Dak will only sign a 4 year deal so really, in 3 years you are forced to renegotiate all of this. You are way overpaying for the numbers Dak wants for the next two years because your NFL revenue is in the tank. Where is the get well plan on that for two years and the whole, "Out Of Line - Market Value QB" theory then? Even your 175 to 180 is out of whack. The revenue is the revenue and it's already in the books. If the cap is going up from 175 to 180, that only means that players are borrowing more money against future cap increase to offset current salaries. IE, it all has to be paid back and that effects future salary cap increases. I mean, I don't understand how people don't get this. None of this makes sense financially but now that we've taken this conversation completely away from the question I asked, which was, how do you build the Defense if you sign Dak, I guess it doesn't much matter anymore right?

a deal has not been made, so saying it will be 4 years I don't know that, Cowboys very well could sweeten the pot and make it 5 years but until a deal is agreed on it is pure speculation. I would also add as one former player said, NFL contracts are not worth the toilet paper they are written on. teams have outs in these contract as do players what is often reported and the reality of the deal is very much different. People of looking at avg of a contract not how the contract breaks down.

MM didn't get the job not being on board with Prescott as the QB and promising to make him better.
On the other hand MM had a HOF QB for his entire coaching time and only got to 1 SB. Just maybe he understands you need more to win it all.

My stance is pretty clear.. He’s terrible value..

I’m a big fan of his when he’s making a 4th round contract.
You’ve been tarred and feathered already. Don’t try to save face now.

You don’t know football. At all.

“DURRRRR ANDY DALTON’S JUST AS GOOD AS DAK AND THERE WON’T BE ANY DROPOFF YOU GUYS DURRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!”

The 2020 cap was: $198.2 million in 2020, an increase from $188.2 million in 2019. The league has increased its salary cap every year since having an uncapped season in 2010, allowing teams to spend a significant amount in free agency.

If the cap is 180 million in 2021, going down 18.2 million from last year is not good when increasing a QBs salary by 5 million plus other deals like Zeke and Jaylon that increase.

To me, what Dak's number is this year isn't that big a deal.

Why?

1. Dallas has 3 chances of winning the SB this year - slim, fat and none. So the end result of doing the tag, getting long term deal done, etc. doesn't change.
2. Cap as far as we know will be down this year, but very good chance it's back up next year, so this year is one best just not worried about.
3. If he's tagged, won't be next year (unless it's to trade him), so either he gets a long term deal or he's gone. Either way, again this is a "lost" year.
4. So many teams will draft quarterbacks, or have/will trade for/sign free agent quarterbacks, Dallas could have a wide open field to draft a good one.

What matters is next year and beyond...

Your post history speaks for itself.

It most definitely does. And if you pay attention you notice I defend most of these guys. Dak is the only one grinds y'all gears though lol. When I defend Witten and Sean Lee y'all have no issue with that lol.

And you said go google Carolina. OK, well, I don't really have to do that because I can tell you right now that two major steps that Carolina made were to fire their HC and replace him with a Defensive Minded Coach in Rhule and to get rid of their big ticket QB that was killing cap. So OK, lets start there. How exactly you gonna do that Sean? Where does that part fit in with any of this?

So you see, Carolina is actually the poster child for Blow It All Up football. As I said, how do you do what you suggest without doing what it is that you seem to be entirely against. See where this is going?

You asked how to fix the defense without cap space and I simply said go look at how Carolina did it in one offseason.

They did not blow their entire defense up. That’s more so the point, but tweaked and got younger where needed. The are retooling their team to fit what Rhule wants to do. They drafted an entire draft on defense and sprinkled it in with a few veterans. Defense then went from awful to middle of the pack. That’s simply the point. Draft defense, keep guys like Lawrence, LVE, Diggs, Wilson etc. draft the rest of your needs

I would consider a franchise tag as a failure to get a deal done, so when you say you could predict it every week and sooner or later you would be right? I tend to think differently. Getting a contract longer term I think gives Cowboys more flexibility than the 37 mill hitting at once.

I really just meant that the media will keep guessing. I could do the same on a deal. But here we are 2 years later. I would rather have a deal to work with but at this time I really don’t know what the FO is doing.

Yeah, because this team has been so close for the last 25 years. :muttley:

Dak, no Dak, it really doesn't matter with Booger & Son in charge.
Probably so. Amazing some fans actually believe we have a better shot without Dak than with him. Kinda smells of a troll stench:)

It is pretty obvious those worshipping at the ‘church of Dak’ think little of the team and all about the player. These same ‘church of Dak’ worshippers will be the first to criticize Jerry when the wheels fall off and Dak can’t deliver.

A $40M QB can’t do it without an All-Pro line. Even Mahomes needs some offensive weapons. Give him time he is coming off a horrific injury. Need at least a year or two to recover. PUP? Well, if Jerry would have signed him earlier he would not be on PUP. Why no money for defense? Dak can’t do it alone. Not Dak’s fault #21 stinks. Aikman had Emmitt and Moose and an OL. Give Dak that and you will see. Why is he sitting in the pocket? Well, you wouldn’t run either if you broke your leg. Duh!

Real question,What if dak is not the qb that MM really wants but is forced upon him by jerry, sort of like haskins and rivera or rg3 and shanny...not saying that's what going on but what if it was? What should happen?
Maybe
But remember that before Dak went down, he seemed pretty comfortable in MMs offesne.
I know they were three of the very worst pass defenses in the league, but MM did get to see Dak and the offense light up Atlanta, Seattle and Cleveland.
Extremely hard to measure due to how bad those pass defenses were....but 500 yards and 40+ points are still pretty sweet
I guess the lingering question is how e do vs the better pass Ds.......guess we'll see.

In another thread you made some comment about Dak fans who think after signing him Jerry will perform a miracle and fix this team.

From the thread
How do fans determine whether it’s the QB or team holding them back?

So, this comment you made is clearly you thinking if they don't sign Dak and find a cheap QB - like Andy Dalton, who I think you have suggested - that Jerry will create football Utopia because he has the money.

1. The Cap is a myth fans wring hands over. Making the right moves can change a team's "stars" from one season to the next. The right moves, which include adjusting for the cap. Extending contracts to get the RIGHT defenders.
2. When has Jerry EVER created football Utopia after Jimmy left? Money will not make this man a football guy. He has shown that over the last two and a half decades.

So why is it you think this team will somehow be better if they have the money? How will Jerry suddenly grow a brain?

I am so interested in your specifics.

This is league wide..

Unless you have a elite QB if you’re spending around 15% or more of your cap space on the quarterback then you aren’t winning a Super Bowl. Much less a team that has bad contracts like we already have.

Eli Manning is the only non elite QB to bank and somehow win a trophy.

Dallas is a lot like Seattle without a Super Bowl. Look at how Seattle is struggling to build around the paid Russell Wilson.. They just can’t get enough pieces around him and rumors he wants out of there because of it.

If paying the QB was no big deal and just a myth like you say it is I would love for their to be more examples of this but it turns out that only the HOF type QBs are capable of overcoming the higher cap percentage and the Joe Flacco / Dak types have teams that struggle when they are asked to have their play match their pay.

Dallas is a team trending down.. The OL is trending down.. The defense needs a complete makeover. We have several bad deals.. The Dak deal destroys this team.
