I Watched a Mike Fisher video yesterday on Youtube where he discussed an idea, he was referencing an article he read, I forgot from who but it basically discussed trading up and going after the TE Kyle Pitts ( who is expected to be a game changer at his position ) with the number 10 pick. He mentioned he has been compared as a cross between Travis Kelsey and Shannon Sharpe. He did say this would not be an easy trade up to pull off BUT the idea was to trade our #10 a 4th rounder and Schultz to move up 2 spots in front of Carolina !!!!

After Watching this video it led me to wonder the following:

Can this D be fixed enough in one draft & FA to maximize our chance at a Superbowl next year ?

OR

Attacking this from another perspective should the Cowboys go all in on Offense go after Pitts and look at trying to become the 2nd coming of the greatest show on turf ?

Which approach would give us the best shot at contending next year ?

FOR THE RECORD - I am hoping the Cowboys grab Patrick Surtain with number 10 and trying to go after as much D as possible since we all know D wins championships BUT can we seriously do enough between the Draft and Free Agency on D, to completely dismiss considering the other alternative ?

I think it at the very least is worth a discussion and hearing everyones point of view could this even really work ?

That package doesn't even come close to getting it done - not sure why Carolina would do that.

Schultz has basically 0 trade value.

Terrible idea.

The greatest show on turf failed to win a super bowl until they'd built up their D. They were 4th on D the year they won it. Winning a super bowl w/o D is pretty much impossible.

We can build a championship level team without Kyle Pitts.

The hype this guy is getting is nuts. He's a slightly bigger Mike Evans who plays "TE".

To win in the playoffs we would need one side of the ball to be exceptional and the other to be above average with special teams being the x-factor. Right now special teams is pretty good, our offense is above average, and our defense is below average and needs the most work.

I didn't say thats what i wanted to do - But thought it would be an interesting alternative - Could you imagine this offense WOW

That was just what Fisher mentioned - but he said the same thing Caroline liked some QB forgot who but if he was still there thats who they would grab

Trade up for a TE? I mean yeah, Pitts looks like a potential stud but trading up?

Yeah. No. If anything, trade down.

I personally want to go Surtain but i thought the suggestion or discussion was an interesting one ! plus drafting TE's in the first round is always an interesting topic with Cowboys fans HAhahahahah

Pitts should be in consideration at 10 but to go chasing a TE in the Top 5-6 picks by having to give up maybe a 3rd and/or a 2nd round pick in a draft were we need quantity as much as quality would be pretty bad IMO.

I definitely agree D needs lots of help which is why personally i want surtain and a heavily leaning Defensive draft but thought this was an interesting discussion at the very least and a different way to approach the issue

No. The only player I'm trading up for is a QB if I know we aren't extending Dak.

I'd take Pitts at 10 as he'd likely be the BPA but he'll probably be gone.

I would only take Pitts, who I love in this draft, if Surtain and Farley are gone, along with Sewell. Pitts does remind me of Shannon Sharpe and I think he will have a similar career. But the Cowboys defense wasn't just bad last year, they were historically bad. They are losing two more CBs to free agency in all likelihood and their DL is just garbage.

The way I see it, if both CBs are gone along with Sewell, then there will probably be a QB there, and that means trade partners. Maybe someone will offer up a bonified defensive player and a draft pick to move up to the 10 spot.

Cowboys selected CeeDee Lamb last year when they sorely needed defense, and the results were a trash season.

Now faced with the same proposition and already having a full stable of WRs and TEs some of you want to do it again??? Not too bright, don't blame anything on the defense...if the offense don't score 40 or 50 it their fault.

Balance is key. Also you ain't winning nothing with the 30th ranked defense. SB champs usually have a top 10 defense of the years...just saying.

I could be convinced to take pitts at 10, but to trade up to get him and give up valuable assets...I wouldn't want to do that....how much better does the offense get if we get pitts....this is not fantasy football or madden football.... does he translate to 2 oe 3 more points per game. there are only so many balls to go around and he will get his catches, at the price of cooper, gallup and CD.....

I wouldn't trade up to get him and give up schultz....

I think Pitts is the 5th best prospect in this class. If he’s sitting there at 10 then I think he will get serious consideration.

this guy reminds me more of Engram than the next big thing. Im probably wrong but i think we could do a lot better by trading down and adding a lot of pieces to a terrible defense.

I won’t talk about specific picks to move up and down.

But the defense is fixable in under 20 million. Spend the rest of our picks on the draft and sign

Trade for DT Malcolm Brown. $5
Sign CB Bashaud Breeland. He’s played on under $3 million a season the previous two. Another $4-5
Sign LB Nicholas Morrow. Kid is beyond underrated.
Sign S Damontae Kazee or Malik Hooker.

Again, draft the rest on defense.

It would be crazy.
