Honestly I respect that opinion but I also don’t like the “market value” excuse. With that reasoning you just give guys what they want. I don’t know how 40 mil is the market for a Top 10 guy. I don’t see it evening out where next year other guys are getting 45-50 and we are saying we are in the right slot. The cap went down not up
The cap will be going up after this year

Thats been my point with this contract all along.

He almost HAS to win over the next three seasons to cash in again the way he expects, and at the same time he is limiting the players they can put around him.

I really have no idea how not grabbing all he can right now is going to pay off with that much of a difference to make it worth the risk.

I don't think we're winning much over the next 2 years. Probably close to .500 IMO. It's the two years that follow that's important. We're just not a very good team right now. Look at our top 7 or 8 paid players. It's kind of depressing. But hey, I'm going to root for them to be better. They're Cowboys.

Dont be surprised if Tuesday passes with no tag and no contract.

I can see the team PR department putting out a statement to the effect of ......" free agency doesnt happen for another fee days......still plenty of time etc......" just to calm things down.
never going to happen

Starting to see story circulating about Dak possibly not being 100% at start of season.

I dont think anyone knows. This has been nothing but a cluster. I could see it happening before Tuesday and I can see it going all the way until this time next season.
If he plays on the tag he is gone after this season. If they can’t work out a long-term contract in three years they’re not gonna do one next year when it’s going to cost even more money to sign him after Alan Jackson etc. sign

We think. Hopefully there isn’t another season of half full stadiums. As I said I just don’t think you can say “Dak is the 7th/8th best QB” and expect in a couple of years to a group jump him on 40 mil. I think this will end of like RBs where is we’re realize that it’s gone far enough. We’ve already seen mid 30 mil deals go wrong. I may be WAY wrong...wouldn’t be first time..I just think it’s gotten a little too crazy

Not a very good team without Dak, Smith, Collins, Martin, Jarwin and Dalton at QB. Get all those guys back and an full offseason to install the defense with another draft and there is no reason this isnt a playoff team or better.

Is there any possibility that the Jones's just aren't THAT high on Dak even though they say it? Maybe deep down they just feel like they want something else at the position for whatever reason. I think they're crazy but it seems to be both sides are being ridiculously stubborn on their demands..to the point both sides are secretly hoping it doesn't work out. It's just weird.

Agreed. But they can tag him again which would give them next years offseason to trade him.

That tag next year is outrageously expensive will never happen

They dont have to pay it until the season starts. By tagging him it gives them another 6 months to trade him.

Are you really hoping they just let him walk for nothing? AS dumb as Jerry is, he cant be that dumb.

No they should not let him walk for nothing. But once they tag him that 50+ million dollars is on the books automatically until they trade him.

I tend to think the window on this group may be closed as well, but then I look at the rest of league and it isn't that great.

We will see....and you're right....we root anyway. No choice.

Yep, until they trade him. So if they trade him before the season, which they would have to, the salary is mute. Most likely scenario is they would tag him again and then trade him before the draft for picks.

Dak will get tagged, no long term contract.
If dak gets tag, he will signed the tag then rehab his ankle for whole 2021 season, he will not play a down then be ready for 2022 signing a long term contract with another team.

So you don’t think with a healthy, Dak, offensive line a new DC and several new defensive players the team won’t improve?
