If we were just going to give him 40 mil what was the holdup

I guess, you could consider this a 5 year deal @ $38MM/year if you add the franchise tag year plus the 4 year deal. The other part though is a $157MM of it being guaranteed ($31MM tag + $126MM guaranteed). Add in the no trade and no franchise tag clause and you can say the Jones really bungled this negotiations. They could have had a 5 year deal with an AAV of $35MM/year and $95MM-$100MM guaranteed had they offered the deal before Wentz and Goff signed.

The only ones who will be suffering is us fans for the next five years. 8-8 here we come.
I guess you don’t understand what it takes to be 8/8 for as long as this franchise has been doing it. Without top draft picks. It’s actually a great accomplishment. Am I happy about it no but I doUnderstand the achievement of it.

Like I replied to somebody else, the Dak deal tells me the Cowboys are in "win now" mode. Hopefully they aren't setting themselves up for cap hell in the future. But by the time Dak's contract is up the team will probably be free of Zeke, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Amari Cooper's deals to help make up for any dead money from restructures (sorry if I'm not making sense).

Cap hell doesn't really exist. Restructures keep money rolling in and dead money rolling forward.

For example, there are about four players Dallas can restructure this year. If any of those are not restructured this year, they can be restructured next year, as can Dak. This allows the team to continue signing players and to use their future restructures to eat dead cap and sign more players. Pushing money forward also usually lets a growing cap absorb some of the hit and open up space. It's an accounting game.

With 66mil guaranteed ges going to be here longer than 4 years. They'll extend him in year 3 to prevent a monster cap hit towards the end of this new deal. Imo.
It is a 6 year deal, with 2 years voidable for cap games.

He will be here until 2030.

Lol. The deal that no one could comprehend on here a week ago lol.

So if it is a 6 year deal, that's 22mil dead after the 4ty year. I expect a extension before that if they still like him to avoid that.

He's a winner!

Just don't ask for one example of him winning anything noteworthy.
He won one of the biggest contracts in the NFL with a one ankle.

Lol. Makes sense now. You don't ask for much.
