Agreed. But you want to extend them while they still have at least 1 year on their rookie deal left. Waiting until after their last year is not ideal. As we saw with Byron.

Ideally, but it really depends on the player. I think Dallas didn't extend Dak before his rookie year ran out because the team simply wasn't 100 percent convinced about what he was worth.

Now, there's all this flak by some who criticize the team for not extending him after three years. But his third year was hit and miss (divided by before Cooper and after Cooper) after non-franchise-like second year.

Not concerned about other great QBs and their teams in the past. Prescott is getting compensated beyond being adequate - above adequate - good.
Need stellar play from him going forward once the FO fields a very good team around him.

If we're talking about stellar play by him, I agree. But you were talking team success, which is a completely different animal.

61 QBR, 4.6 YPC, 0 TDs and 1 INT when down in the fourth by 7, meaning when the game is on the line and this guy gets paid the second highest in the league.

Not to pile on our newly minted quarterback but I have serious doubts about Dak in a critical juncture of a big game. Say there is a minute and change left on the clock. They’ve got one timeout left. 80 yards to go. I don’t think Dak is that guy to lead a team to pay dirt. He is so risk averse he throws way too many 5 yard passes. And before you know it it’s 4th and long.

I just don’t see him as a game changer.

Thing is they just paid him as one.
