If the word overpaid even crosses your mind, you've made a mistake.
Did Jerry overpay for the Cowboys? That's what he was told at the time of purchase. Even Donald Trump wanted to buy the Cowboys then but didn't because the price was too high. Today that $140M Jerry paid for the Cowboys seems like a hell of a bargain.

This reminds me of the tweet a guy jokingly said "Impeach Queen Elizabeth" and then "journalist" used the tweet as a basis of their Impeach the Queen articles.

:facepalm::muttley:

Every owner overpays for any QB not named Mahomes, Brady, and Rodgers. Those are the elite talents at the position. Below them are Wilson, Watson and a bunch of "maybes".

If you have a very good QB...good for you. They are necessary commodities and should be paid very well. But, at some point owners need to pull a Nick Saban, Jimmy Johnson (at the U), Dennis Erickson and build and build a ridiculous team that merely needs a solid QB who drives the expensive bus to title town. Until then...everyone overpays.

Booger is pissed at France getting the best of him and forcing him to do the contract so he fires back in the pc and as usual, doesn't pause to think before he shoots off his mouth. He's such a tool that he thinks saying that makes him look smarter.

The guy is more luck than brains and when 2024 rolls around, I am sure France will replay that pc to start the talk with Prescott about what they want.

The most amusing part of this is he overpays for the QB and calls the MLB the cornerstone of the defense after overpaying him.

The people he overpays the most are himself and the Highland Park Hillbillies.

You are always going to overpay when you limit your options:

He limited his options 1st by not applying the non-exclusive Tag-competition would have given him a better gage of value

He limited his options also by not getting the deal done last year.

Can you name me some other 'average' qbs who were on pace to break the nfl record for passing or who has the same record as Dak at the same point in their career?

It doesn't amount jack squat what anyone is on pace for. Did he do it or not? No. There you go.

Dak's a very good QB that can stand on his own merits, not could have beens. People who argue about being "on pace to break" this or that record when it wasn't achieved just make it sound like they're desperate to prop Dak up.

He didn't break the record. Period. End of story. Has he led the offense to blow away playoff caliber defenses? No. Can he do it in the future? It's possible. He needs a D that can help. Dallas hasn't had that for a while. Even Romo had to overcome lack of effort on D when it matters.

You can't overpay an elite quarterback. If Jerry thinks he overpaid Dak, then he shouldn't have signed him at all.

Day late and a dollar short but I am glad that this realization is finally dawning on folks. He shouldn't have signed him if he believed it was too much. But there again, it's done so too late now right?

Jerry said everything he's bought that was high quality he has overpaid for including the team... because that's what you do if you want the best. He did not say he overpaid with the context that Dak was not worth that money.
I wish he would take that approach towards coaches and GMs. Shrug.

Is Jerry paying Dak to pad his personal stats or to win championships?

Unfortunately, its to win championships and Dak self destructs against the above average teams. Which are the ones you need to beat in the playoffs. No NFCE caliber teams. OH well, another four years to make it an even 30 chasing the ring. This is getting into Browns, Bengals, Jets Chargers territory. The Cowboys would be wise in drafting a QB high in the next three years. And i mean a legit franchise QB.

Hell, at that price back then, Dak could have bought the Cowboys! lol

Just wait till the next 8-8 season for the buyers remorse to set in

That's the thing, the Jones boys have created the best situation for themselves and the FO. If Dallas goes 8-8 this season or next, it likely won't be the fault of the very good QB that starts for them. It will likely be due to the defense and the failures of the FO to fix it via FA, draft and/or trades.

However, Barnum and Bailey have now paid Prescott as if he is elite enough to overcome the defensive shortcomings and carry the team to the promised land. They also have paid to get Dan Quinn as DC and Stephen has already begun laying groundwork for blame transference with his comments about the talent on defense yesterday. Then there is Mike McCarthy, a SB winning HC who should be able to use the QB paid like an elite player to overcome any deficiencies Quinn failed to hide.

And round and round we go ladies and gents. Blame falls on everyone else but the ring leaders. Pretty slick move by the oil man and his son if you ask me.

No.. They still think in old football terms. Moving on was never an option for them.

Now we get to be the fighting Dak's.

The country club is very happy and all is right in the world.

We can go back to our secret sauce formula and continue down the path of mediocrity and relevancy.
Bro go find a new team

I think Jerry paid because he expects the wage rate to balloon with the upcoming new tv contracts. Dak was *right* to push for more money. But naturally, Jerry wants to talk down the wage rate as long as he can.

I honestly believe you've hit the nail on the head with this breakdown of Jerry and his attitude. He got whipped in these negotiations and felt he had to offer excuses for getting outdone by Todd France. Saying what he did in front of Dak was a ridiculous comment, in my estimation. That's JJ for you. His ego just wouldn't allow him to admit he stinks at negotiating. I think his words were merely a coverup for his true feelings. o_O
