What's going to happen with Dalton?

He got that 7M because he had to play too much. He should have stayed in the 3M range.

All depends on how much he wants to stay in Texas. I can't see any other team signing him as their #1 which is what he was hoping for hanging out in Dallas for a year.

Does it really matter? If the QB1 goes down, time to turn to talks of tanking. Our favorite subject of 2020.

I think Dalton would be a decent fit for Washington whilst they sort themselves out at QB. He's a steady game manager and he wins games. People obviously have amnesia as they forget that he played behind a 3rd string o line and the team still won some games granted with the defense stepping up.

Washington have such a good front secen that they just need someone to keep it steady at QB.

In terms of what we do, we shouldn't keep him as we can't afford to neglect other areas of the team.

Whoa... great thought Dalton to WFT. That would be awesome for the Cowboys.
It would be great, but unlikely. I listen to D.C. sports talk everyday, and nobody is talking about Dalton. Insiders seem to think Mariota and Winston are the 2 guys WFT is looking at. If not they might roll with Kyle Allen, and draft someone. We'll see.

Then we shouldn't have paid him. If dak isn't available we need to lose anyway. If we only saw more mooch last year we'd be drafting #2 or 3.
One game away from playoffs.

No....incorrect. even just one playoff game would have been good for the likes of our team. It was worth the try.

If I'm WFT, I'm taking Dalton all day, every day, over Winston.

Cool thanks. Looks like drafting a QB is what WFT needs, but if they don't trade up they might miss the boat.

Winston would be fun tho.

If GG can show anything in camp he is expendable. Otherwise he comes back on the cheap. Always though he was just scared and stayed home because of Covid.

Not sure if he showed he could be a starting QB again. He's no Fitzmagic.

I don't think Dallas is looking to add another $7 million to their QB budget under this diminished cap. I expect that they will roll with one of the young guys on the roster and hope Dak doesn't unscrew his foot again.
My guess is they will carry three QBs to many unknowns with Daks ankle.

i doing think it matters..he most likely goes elsewhere and the DC cant afford a vet backup at 6mil truly..he will look for best deal and leave, if the best deal is take 3milhere full of incentives maybe he comes back but thats longshot..

True, but stuff heals fast at that age and they have some of the best doctors in the world. Any questions should be answered with the cut down after camp. If they carry 3 you have your answer.

I do believe Garrett Gilbert will be heavily tested in preseason to see if he's a viable backup for Dak, or not.

If that happens and the Cowboys are able to come to an appropriate decision, he'll be handled accordingly.

There'll be a chance that Andy Dalton is signed by another team. If not, he'd be able to return to the C'boys.

What do you think?

He is probably going to get at the very least the same deal he got last year which was about 7 million.

Will he be back in Dallas for another 1 year deal?

Or is he signing elsewhere and getting a longer contract that is worth more?

I'm leaning towards him headed to a new team and hoping we get a 5th round comp pick in exchange for letting him walk (if the front office is frugal in free agency).

I'm not sure where you got your numbers but they are way off. Last season Dalton made less than half of what you said, only 3 mil not 7 mil. Any bonuses he could have gotten were all tied to making the playoffs. Due to Dalton taking only just over 55% of the snaps with Dinucci and Gilbert getting some snaps because of Prescott's injury and because there are limited number of comp picks every year, I seriously doubt the Cowboys would get any comp pick if Dalton walked in free agency. There are many parts to the formula that decides comp picks besides just if a team loses a free agent.

Dalton could and should go start somewhere else. He’s not a great starter but better than some and the league has a huge lack of QBs now. He could end up in WFT.
He's looking for a starting job somewhere else. I doubt he comes back to the Cowboys only to be a backup.
I'd like to have him back as our backup, but I think he'll be starting somewhere.
Very slim pickings for Dalton to be a starter
AFC East -no
AFC North - no
AFC South - is that dumpster fire in Southeast Texas appealing to him?
AFC West - new GM in The Mile High City; does Dalton's experience and ability trump the young trio of Drew Lock, Matt Rypien, and Jeff Driskel?
NFC East- no
NFC North - no
NFC South - no
NFC West - no

Very well said.

The only difference as far as it mattering is if Prescott had to miss say, 4-6 weeks.

I'd rather have Dalton over a DiNucci in that case.

Dalton said covid was the main reason he wanted to stay home last year. Has much changed in that regard since? Not really.

I realize the comp pick crew wants him to sign a 3/80 deal somewhere, but any GM who hangs their hat on him to start for them ought to be fired, and I fully expect to see him back on a multi year backup deal with incentives.

Denver is who I thought the most likely candidate for starting Dalton. But if he doesn't start somewhere, then I'm all in on his being the Cowboys backup QB another year. He's an experienced backup. If this team gets back to having a good defense, running game, and protecting its QB well, it can win with Dalton. Dalton did struggle in some games, but only because our protection breakdown practically got him killed.

Yeah, the last part. Let Dalton walk get the comp pick, and everyone is happy. Honestly, idk how many of us can get thru watching the guy quarterback this offense again...super boring.
Yep, let Dalton walk. I’d like to see more of Gilbert anyway. Kid looked pretty sharp when they gave him a shot against Pitt.

he might end up back here.
new england was mentioned alot but they re-sign cam.
dont see alot of starting gigs out there.
