McGinn: Anonymous Scouts On Kyle Pitts

Do you throw in a 3rd to move up two spots for Pitts to get ahead of Philly?
A 3rd for sure would not do it.

It would require our 2nd rounder to get to 5 and we might get a 4th back from Cincy.

A loud "No" on that

But if he's there at 10 and top of our board at the time, I'd take him.

Unfortunately he's not falling to 10.
The hype is real.
And what sucks the most is the iggles probably take him over any WR that's on the board.
I hate it when the league figures out what I knew all along about a player.

I think they will go Chase. They still have Goedert and really need a #1. Chase is pretty high on the board too. My hope is the decide after spending 1st and 2nds on receiving targets the last few years, they take Surtain. Could happen because their secondary is bad. Im hoping need over value with them

Consider this. Dallas has a checkbook now to bring in a couple of FA. Not just trash FDA, but something toward the top. They still have Zeke and Lawrence to re-up to get more money. If you bring in a stud DT and a stud safety, offering a second to swap places with Cincy - which may not be enough - to get back a fourth and Pitts still leaves you 10 draft picks for defense.

The task is to get the defense stout enough to be able to hold an opponent to under 23 points. With Pitts and the Trips, Zeke, and Pollard, what a freakin' nightmare defenses will have with that team.

So can you take the draft picks and a couple of FA, still sacrifice a couple of picks to get Pitts, and still field a defense that can be competitive?

If we're going to take him, then we absolutely have to shore up the defensive trouble spots in free agency. That means a quality starting corner, free safety and defensive tackle and at least two-down starting linebacker. Yes, we might can fill one of those starting spots in the second round and if we're lucky, in the third round, but the first-rounder is really the only guaranteed starter you get (and sometimes even that doesn't pan out).

If the Joneses stay cheap in FA and don't fill those spots, then I'm not comfortable taking Pitts because it isn't going to matter if the defense still stinks. I'd rather trade down in that case and take a first-round defender, if there's not a top-10 one worth taking.

I really don't want to be wedged into that, though, so I hope we address our defensive deficiencies adequately in FA.

I think Pitts is wildly overrated.

He is very, very good and a true natural WR but comparing him to Kelce or Kittle right now is nonsense. Those guys are elite blockers.
Pitts is a guy who beat up college defenses but his physical advantage drops quite a lot at the next level.
He's been a spread WR basically his entire collegiate career. They'd use him occasionally inline but he was most often used on the move or out wide.

Also, I watched Jace Amaro in college in the same system.
Amaro had 106 catches for 1352 yards which is basically what Pitts has the last TWO years.

Pitts is really good but people are just being silly with hall of fame talk.

I DO think he can be the best TE in the game. IF you are willing to play him on the move and out wide some now and let him grow into an in-line guy. But that's not going to be next year.

People don't understand that right now an NFL team would hit him at the LOS with a DE then he'd see zone coverages with LB and Safeties forcing him to read coverage and sit down.
NFL teams don't free release then man cover elite pass catching TE's so the ask is VERY different than college.

And the blocking talk is pure inaccuracies. Pitts only attempted 20 pass blocks all year. You can't tell much at all from that.
He was willing to body block people in the run game but he was still just effort blocking with poor technique there.

Pitts is really good and easily TE1 but he's mostly an h-back today and if you won't utliize him that way avoid him in the top 15.

Kyle Pitts, Florida (6-foot-6, 250 pounds): Maybe the least nit-picked player in the draft. “The question was, could he block better in 2020 than he did in ’19?” said one scout. “In ’19, he blocked like crap. This year, he defied all the odds, gained some weight and blocked his *** off. Low-maintenance. Loves football. He’s a difference-maker. I think he had zero drops this year. More fluid than Vernon Davis.” Averaged 17.9 yards per catch in final season.

“He’s better than the two guys from Iowa two years ago (T.J. Hockenson, Noah Fant) combined,” a second scout said. “He has Hall of Fame potential as a receiver. Just unique.” Regarded by one team as the second-best player in the draft. “You look at (Travis) Kelce and (George) Kittle, the success they’ve had, there’s no comparison as far as athletic ability to this guy,” a third scout said. “I usually don’t go for that position that high, but I would take him in the top 10. He even tries to block. Played hurt, too. For a young quarterback, I’d like to have this guy on my team.”
They were already trying to destroy this kid,, can you block,,, lol

Pitts is good and would love to see a Star on his helmet. Some other talented tight ends who can do what Pitts can do as a receiver later in the draft. Tre McKitty of Georgia & Zaire Mitchell of Notre Dame College( Ohio)

If he's there at 10 and the patriots want to swap picks along with us getting their #1 pick next year.

I'm taking that trade. I'm hoping we can trade down and get more picks and the Patriots love their TEs.

I am always very skeptical of "anonymous scouts "or ANYTHING anonymous for that matter.

This kid is special, I wouldn't be mad at Dallas if they chose to draft him at 10.

He maybe a special talent at his position and you don't pass on that easily. If he's there you either get an enormous bounty in return for the pick or you take him and don't look back. If we don't take him at 10, the gmen certainly will at 11.

But, IMHO, he won't sniff #10. Picks 4, 5, 6 and 7 will all have him rated extremely high on their boards.

Why do some keep talking about us continually trading down for more picks? We already have ten picks and ten rookies aren’t making the team. I understand trying to get an additional second or third, but past that is a bit of a waste. I guess we can try to bundle some of those picks to move back up for a player we really like, but that’s about it. My point is, extra picks (if we keep them) might be a waste instead of taking the players we really like when it’s time for us to pick where we are slotted.

I'm just gonna say this, if the Eagles take him, the writing is on the wall for us. We better figure out the Free Safety position RFN and it better be a fix for about 10 years.

Nobody said they have to be picks this year.
