He would’ve needed at least five more years producing at his prime level.

One thing I will say in fairness to Jerry..Jimmy J had a shelf life of about 3 -4 years anywhere he coached. Its his nature. I think he was always gonna leave Dallas..heck I heard he wanted to leave the prior year. He must have some gypsy in his blood lol..Plus the fact he loves sailing. and being in Florida. I think that was his real passion and still is. It was time when he left no matter how we slice it. I should be fair to Jimmy..I said he was awful..he was great at finding talent in Miami and Dallas. He found a ton of great players while in Miami. Surtain, Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas and others. But I think he was burned out when he took the Miami gig. I think it was the means to an end for him.

No way. Had the nfl not rigged the 2014 game against the ***** packers he might be worthy because that was an all time great throw and catch.

....lol.. consider him for the Romo HOF list. You know, good stats, superstar status, marketable, ......but just couldn't get into that elusive post season club. Post season is where it counts.

Of course, you have rarities in the likes of Witten.

couple Detroit lions made it despite never accomplishing anything. Both were better but I think only Barry is worthy

Steve Smith has the 8th most receiving yards in NFL history... equivalent to 14 consecutive 1000 yard seasons. He also has more TDs than Dez at 81. He may never make the hall of fame

Torrey Holt is right behind him at 13,000 yards, has a super bowl ring, and will forever be remembered as a focal player in one of the most legendary offenses in NFL history. He has been eligible for a number of years now and hasn’t gotten close.

Anquan Boldin has 13,000 yards, made the super bowl with 2 different franchises, 82 career TDs, and has a ring. He’ll likely never make the hall of fame.

A couple UofM guys, Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson have 14,000 yards and will likely make it before any of the aforementioned.

a lot of receivers have made the HoF in recent years and there’s a lot more that should. It’s an incredible logjam at the position, and Dez has something huge working against him that will prevent any consideration: his story. It’s why TO didn’t make it on his first ballet, and why Calvin Johnson made it despite only having a partial career. How people regarded these athletes and how they handled their careers is very impactful of their HoF chances.

And what the common person knows about Dez is he had issues early in his career on and off the field, got over them, became a dominant force for the Cowboys... and then got paid and disappeared completely.

That’s his legacy, and it’s not making the hall of fame.

Good points. If I had to rank the likelihood of all those guys making it in order, I would say: 1) Andre Johnson, 2) Steve Smith, 3) Reggie Wayne, 4) Anquan Boldin, 5) Tory Holt, 6) Ryan Switzer, 7) Dez Bryant.

Dez had a nice run here. Injuries took their toll and he slowed down.

I just read an article where Dez was saying that he is sure that he is a lock for the HOF because of all the TD's he has caught during his career.

"Nobody put up TD's the way I put up."

His numbers -- 7,506 career receiving yards and 77 total touchdowns -- aren't historically enough to lock him in ... but he is one of the freakiest players to ever play.

Dez tells us what he did in such a short time should be enough to get him in ... but he did admit he's probably not a first-ballot kind of guy at this point.

What you citizens think?

Yep, Dez will get in the HOF the day Dak wins a SB

Jimmys problem in Miami was he need an Aikman, and was stuck with an aging Marino that he couldn't get rid of.

He drafted an incredible team in Miami and set up his buddy Wannstedt before he cut out.

Problem was they had Jay Fiedler as their QB.

They still contended and did well.

Jimmy never lost what was his strength. Just the QB situation was cloudy and he couldn't do much about it.

But he drafted guys that allowed them to contend nonetheless for some time.

Kind of in the Terrell Davis camp minus the Super Bowl rings. Dominant player for 3 years, got injured and fell off a cliff. Davis shouldn't have gotten in, at least not for a long time. Dez as great as he was can't see him getting in.

I forgot who that was so I had to look him up. He has more career punt returns than receptions. That’s kind of amazing

He needs to be the MVP in a SB to get in.

I must say Jimmy J. was pretty awful for the most part in Miami. Love the guy but he wasn't good there. He hung on to some players there a little too long. Marino was way past his prime and he should have traded him when he got there and drafted a QB.But no way Dez should be in the hall.
Jimmy wanted to trade Marino when he got there, but ownership vetoed any trade possibility. Marino was a legend there and there was no way they would have been able to sell it to fans
