What's going to happen with Dalton?

If they sign Dalton again, they are in essence giving up a 5-7th round pick next year to do so. That's assuming that he signs elsewhere and Dallas doesn't go hog wild signing unreleased players. If Alex Smith and Dalton were willing to sign for the same dollar amount, Smith would be the better option from a comp pick standpoint.

One game away from playoffs.

No....incorrect. even just one playoff game would have been good for the likes of our team. It was worth the try.

If you think we can make a playoff run with a 7 million dollar QB why the hell did they pay dak?

What do you think?

He is probably going to get at the very least the same deal he got last year which was about 7 million.

Will he be back in Dallas for another 1 year deal?

Or is he signing elsewhere and getting a longer contract that is worth more?

I'm leaning towards him headed to a new team and hoping we get a 5th round comp pick in exchange for letting him walk (if the front office is frugal in free agency).
Any team that signs Dalton as a starter better have Vince Lombardi style leadership from the Defense

Very slim pickings for Dalton to be a starter
AFC East -no
AFC North - no
AFC South - is that dumpster fire in Southeast Texas appealing to him?
AFC West - new GM in The Mile High City; does Dalton's experience and ability trump the young trio of Drew Lock, Matt Rypien, and Jeff Driskel?
NFC East- no
NFC North - no
NFC South - no
NFC West - no
You don't know near as much as you think you do about the QB turnover in the league for 2021.

The thread was not about 'the QB turnover in the league for 2021' - it's about what team Andy Dalton winds up with and in what role. A few members have the opinion that Dalton will be a starter somewhere. My opinion is that it might not happen. Outside of the Texans and the Broncos, what other teams do you think would consider choosing Dalton as an alternative to what they have now?
Washington has been mentioned. With Ron Rivera - I could see that happening.

I would be shocked if he stayed another year. IMO, we should just roll with Garrett Gilbert as our backup QB and keep it moving.

I think Dalton would be a decent fit for Washington whilst they sort themselves out at QB. He's a steady game manager and he wins games. People obviously have amnesia as they forget that he played behind a 3rd string o line and the team still won some games granted with the defense stepping up.

Washington have such a good front secen that they just need someone to keep it steady at QB.

In terms of what we do, we shouldn't keep him as we can't afford to neglect other areas of the team.
There is always a starting gig somewhere at some point for the Daltons of the league.
He is still good enough to start for a team that is in a QB transition mode, and still good enough to succeed if in the right situation.
A team in need of a decent QB with a good OL and defense already.

He's gonna learn the hand signals that Dak can audible out of.

Dalton only got 3 from us. Could have been up to 7 with performance bonuses that weren't going to happen. OTC has his valuation at 10. A backup/starter tweener. Borderline 4th/5th round comp pick.

Dalton will be signed somewhere to compete for a starting job. After he came back from injury, his QB rating was 97 or so. Dak was only 99 or so. Dalton is not a bum.

There you go right there revealing you just don't get it. NFL QB turnover in 2021 has everything to do with this thread. How is Andy Dalton going to find a starting QB job if there isn't and QB turnover? Your idea is he won't find a starting job so he might be willing to stay as the Cowboys backup. I say he's not staying no matter what.

How could infer this statement from my comment?
I never stated anything about Dalton staying with the Cowboys. I never stated
that he wouldn't find a starting job elsewhere.
I listed the two most unstable QB situations in the league where Dalton could most be considered as a replacement .In my second post, I added Washington as a choice.
I went through a checklist of all the franchises' starting QBs. The Bears are swinging for the fences - going after Wentz, then Wilson. 49ers were in the hunt for Stafford; read that Darnold might be on their radar with the Jets having the the 2nd pick to select Zach Wilson. Niners could even use their No. 12 and take one of the touted QBs left on the board. - and perhaps trade for Bridgewater to be the bridge. Or GM Lynch just might stick with Garoppolo. Panthers would love to get the currently unavailable Watson, or use their No. 8 for a new QB. Despite all the talk and speculation, methinks the Seahawks and Russ are having a lovers spat.
All the other teams appear to be set besides set on whom their starter will be, outside of the ones that are picking at top of the draft.
To sum up ---I don't think any team will offer Andy Dalton a role to be the starter besides the Broncos, the Football Team, and the Texans (once they realize that Watson is not suiting up for them anymore and must make a trade with another team).

there is a huge trash can outside of my house....I think he will fit in there very nicely

Utter ignorance!

Dalton signs with Saints. QBs Saints to knock Dallas out of round one of the playoffs.

I think Dalton gets a starting gig, but it's likely going to be a team that is also interested in drafting a QB. Give the team the option to let the rookie sit and learn.

Otherwise, he'll be a backup. Unless he takes a discount to stay close to home (doubt it), it won't be in Dallas.

I think that's the best that Dalton could hope for, cause no one is looking at Andy and thinking franchise QB.
