Did Johnathan Marshall DT Arkansas Just Make Himself the Surprise DT High Pick?

I like DTs to do at least 30 reps. Strength inside is important. I'd have to see more of Marshall, but I am impressed with his ability to penetrate in the middle. It is exactly what Dallas needs. It does not bother me that he is 24 already. Given the way the Cowboys CAP is managed the chances are when his rookie deal is up he will leave via free agency anyway.

He probably gets a second look and moves up a little from the 7th round where he was projected. Kind of guy I would like to see the Cowboys get later in the draft. He's not 24 yet not until middle of September.

Marshall 6-3,315 ran a 4.75 forty 30+ reps. Did he just become the breakout DT after Christian Barmore?

You know we won’t overlook him given that JJ played for the Razorbacks back in the day.

He looked pretty explosive out of his stance for a man of his size from the video Timb2 posted. It would be nice to pair someone pick him with a quality veteran DT in free agency.

4th - 5th round player imo....thats good athleticism as well. Just looked at a couple games and he seems to be a steady presence with a better get off for a big guy than you'd expect...

I like him but that army crawl bulls**t over guys will get him blasted by an O-lineman with any guts. That just stands out to me as a d**k move.

The Cowboys have only drafted one Razorback since Jerry bought the team.

Think he looked good at the Senior Bowl as well. Put up 36 reps and ran a 4.77. Strong dude but limited production and played out of position used to be a pretty common draft pick for Dallas.

They were going to take Shawn Andrews and PHL jumped them, bust.

They should have taken Trey Flowers. They had as much inside on him as they did when they took Yosemite in the 1st. Same HC.

Well, he would have been perfect for the scheme we ran in our recent past. He's a 3Tech and if he's cat quick, he will get away with that little hope step to his left that he uses to free up but he better be cat quick because if he's not ultra quick, he's gonna get drove in the NFL. You can't leave your feet as an interior DL in the NFL. Can't do it. That's a bad habit and I'm thinking he'll have to be coached out of that. Now, if his skills are exceptional, to the point where he can get away with things that every Coach teaches you not to do, then that's different but then again, if he's that guy, he is going high in the first round so that's not who he is, I'm thinking or he would already be in that discussion.

I do like the way he can move though. Maybe the DE opposite the LEO but there again, a team that covets the 3Tech is going to scope him up, I'm thinking.
