He can do it when the alums leave him alone. That has been the problem with every UT HC since Royal, they were nervous around Royal but since then they've been a real problem and that good ole boy high school coaches network has been a real challenge for guys like Brown, Strong and Hermann. Yup, that started with this past season and just exploded this recruitment cycle. They actually got ESPN #1 overall player in Des Evans. It was hardly ever mentioned. He will be exploding onto the scene during his sophomore yr this year. Like the cowboys the heels have lacked the overall talent in the middle of the d-line and on the back end. Mack covered it all the last two recruiting classes.

You're right about the obnoxious alums.

But unless you mean at the very end of his very long tenure.....
Don't see how you can ever include Brown with those other guys.

He was a monster recruiter at Texas and had them on an unreal 10-12 year tear.....in the top 5 or 10 seemingly every year, winning almost all their bowls, plus winning a national title and playing in a second one.

Nobody can match Saban’s record of consistency but few coaches other than him (and Swinney) have had their program consistently in the top 5-10 for that long of a stretch.

Toward the end though, I agree, the alumni had made the job no longer enjoyable for him and he had lost his spirit.

now he has it back....but he’s old.

I joke with my UT friends that Mack might get UNC to a final 4 before Texas gets there.

I get it too but Lawrence still has the upside over Wilson but Wilson comes into the league day 1 with more developed skill imo.

He very well could be. I think Wilson will end up being the best QB in this draft but it's all about where you go. Lots of talented QBs go to the Medowlands to die so that makes a difference too. Hard to say, so much depends on the situation.

Not everybody agrees with that Catch. There are actually a lot of people out there that believe Wilson has better upside. I was shocked to hear this but I guess a lot of personnel people think that Wilson has the higher ceiling.

Yeah.. Wilson's a legit talent.

He does those things that most NFL guys don't have the ability to do and if he does it at this level then he will be one of the very best.

It took me about 5 weeks into the college season but when everyone was hyping Fields as the #2 QB in this class I had already had this guy past him.

It really is a Mahomes / Rodgers type of comparison and it's good to see Chris Simms make that exact comparison I did to kinda confirm what I saw.

Yeah, he can do a lot of things, for sure. I would have been fine with moving on from Dak, getting picks for him and drafting Wilson. He can do a lot of stuff but he looks goofy as hell!
