News: Richie Witt Predicting Cowboys sign starting S and CB

Signing a corner basically rules out drafting a cb round 1 or 2. Which wouldnt bother me depending on the corner they sign.

Negatory. Filling your glaring holes in FA allows you to take BPA in the draft, whatever position that is, even if you have a viable starter already.

You draft for the future as well.

He's not bad, better some of the other options for sure.
He makes some sense as far as bigger name guys they tend to look at. Wont factor in to the comp formula and at his age will probably take a deal they can get out of after 2021

The problem is that from a defensive perspective, if they stay at 10, CB is really the only option. There aren't any big time DE or DTs worthy of that spot. You could go Parsons and try him at MLB, I guess. Outside of that, if CB isn't an option, you likely have to try to trade out of that spot (which we don't ever seem to be interested in doing) or go offense at 10 with Pitts or Slater (which I am not a fan of doing).

agree. I think they are wanting to move out of the 10 slot for the reason you stated. Makes sense.

CB should still very much be on the table at 10 matter who we sign

I would be happy with one of Simmons, Harris, Boston, Hooker or Kazee at FS.

And one of Fuller, Bouye, Butler, Sherman, Hayward, Rhodes, Breeland, Jackson, Conley or Dunbar to play CB.

Come draft time I still draft the best available CB whether that be Surtain or Farley with our 10th pick. If there is any debate I would still go defensive with Micah Parsons at LB. Maybe watch how board flows until your pick and move back a couple of picks to grab one of the three mentioned.

Add defense and draft capital.

Did re-signing leftover FA Anthony Brown last year stop us from drafting Trevor Diggs ?

It would bother me as it's not like there's pro bowlers or top notch quality starters still out there and just falling off trees -
and we need new, true difference makers, not the same ole same ole average players that we know have limitations and won't take us to an upper, higher level of play.

if that's their approach, then we've hit rock bottom passing up a bona fide starter early in he draft at the outside CB ..opposite DIggs.
And imo, that would also be Stephen Jones totally controlling and stifling Wil McClay who knows value and grading for the sake of economics.
All the more because Stephen's mindset is clearly sold on building a SB driven totally based off the draft.

Otherwise not only is this kind of decision to pass up quality coverage men in the draft is an sure indication that we're on our way to another horrible year in the secondary,
but somehow McCarthy and these new defensive coaches have somehow brain-washed management into thinking we're gonna be ok with the same ole ,same ole.
Scrub front offices think like that. Limited coaches will continue to limit your team like that...imo.

I said depending on the FA corner. Obviously a Brown level guy doesnt stop you from drafting a guy

Simmons got tagged

if we do trade for Gilmore, whats left on his deal with NE? Will he wanna new deal from us now? Or will he play on the remainder of his deal? It all just depends. I can see doing this if it means we get him cheaper than we would have if we signed Peterson. It would be very smart actually. Both players are kinda the same at this point in their careers.
