Each teams gets in excess of 330M of tv money EVERY YEAR. So stop being pro ownership when players want to get paid. If anything, we should be anti-salary cap.
I have been anti-salary cap since the current collective bargaining agreement system was first ratified in 1993. However, it should be pointed out the NFLPA fought for the implementation of the current salary cap structure also.

No details on the viewership guarantees. I wonder how long before the broadcasters are giving away free advertising again.

The home markets of both teams will be broadcast on local free TV.

Yes I know that, they always have. Most likely on KXTA here in DFW area. But that means if we want to watch. , say, Eagles / Giants game, we can't unless we subscribe, when it used to be free, if one had NFLN, which most do.

One other thing that helped the NFL in its negotiations was the massive drop in the old school TV network programming apart from live sports. The audience for regular programming on CBS, NBC, and ABC has shrunk massively.

In other words, the old school networks see live sports and the advertising it generates as their only lifeline to long term survival. They were willing to pony up to keep sports fans on their platforms. The alternatives for them were dire.

It’s certainly a big deal for NFL owners as usual. I’m curious to see how this works out for NFL fans.
Coca Cola started it with their time shifting research and the story I got from one of my TV net guys is that one of the execs for Coca Cola watched his 70 year old Mom program her DVR. The same woman that for all those years looked at her VCR blinking 00:00 set it to record in less than 5 seconds and he saw her queue set up and that started the dialogue about the effect of time shifting. The result was Coca Cola decided no more TV programming that can be shifted, only live televised events. Time shifting was epidemic.

Normal adult people can't tell Iowa from Idaho but they know a 30 minute program can be watched in 23 minutes and a 60 minute one in 44.

The NFL’s massive new TV deal means a spike in the salary cap in the coming years as well. Lucrative deals that have been agreed to this week have a chance to age quite well as teams in future years have much more cap to work with and the price for premium players only goes up.

So Dak's deal probably isn't the team killer so many have complained about, who'd a thunk it?

This is the future of it. Viewers are paying for ESPN through their cable or sat bill. Same for NFLN.

The talking heads on the tv this morning were all raving about how "accessible" the NFL games will now be. After all you can watch it on your phone!

Well according to them all the Thursday night NFL games will be through Amazon Prime. Great, right?

Except that you have to pay for Amazon Prime. I get the NFL Network for free on my EXISTING cable, but of course I have to have cable to start with, which - ta da! - you have to pay for. And when Cowboys games here were blocked out because the Saints played at the same time, the only way I could see the game was via Netflix or Direct TV, which - you guessed it - you have to pay for.

I know it wasn't perfect in the old days, but I suspect before too long "free" NFL games will be a thing of the past. And oh by the way, I don't want to watch an NFL game on a field that covers 47,970 sq ft on an 18 sq in cell phone.

Glad I'm old for once, won't be here to pay for everything related to the NFL....

Maybe it's just me, but the emphasis on expanding into new territory seems like an attempt to get back what was lost.

The weird part is they're expanding into subscription based markets to regain viewers who weren't watching when it was free.

So fans will be forced to sign up for Amazon Prime to watch games. other than the "select" games NFLN will air. This is BS. It is not like ST for games outside of your market.

I guess Disney paid the price. Especially if ESPN Plus gets the ST package fro DTV. Then they can have people sign up for their pay per view site, then pay a huge price for ST.

This entire deal is a set back IMO.

Reddit streams are your friend...I watch any game on any sport I want and don't pay a penny other than for an internet provided.
I'm not giving them crap, ever.

I don’t know. There seems to be a big push with most live sports to allow them to be viewed vi steaming.

I think a lot of people want to get rid of traditional cable and the leagues dont want to risk losing people who would watch if available on their streaming services, but aren’t big enough fans to keep cable or Dish just because of sports alone.

I would think there’s some overlap there.

hardcore fans won’t move to streaming for the sole purpose of keeping nfl games.

but there are probably less intense football fans who want or have moved to streaming services and would still watch or watch occasionally if available.

I mean I haven’t seen the marker research but I’m sure they have teams of folks working on this.

After the pandemic resulted in a major financial hit for the NFL, the league announced new TV deals with ESPN/ABC, FOX, NBC and Amazon. The new contracts will run through the 2033 season, with the networks paying roughly a combined $110 billion, per the Sports Business Journal.

As part of the deal, Amazon’s streaming service will be the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football, marking the first time in history that the NFL signs a contract with a provider that will exclusively broadcast over-the-top. The deal takes effect for the 2022 campaign. The NFL Network will also air select Thursday matchups throughout the season.

ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcasts will also be different, beginning with the 2023 season. There will be six Monday doubleheaders each season, with the early game on ESPN followed by the late matchup on ABC.

Amazon’s deal will begin in 2022, while ESPN/ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS’s new packages start in 2023.

The NFL’s current deals brought in a combined $5.9 billion per season. The new contracts will bring in roughly $10 billion a year, meaning we should see a big jump in the salary cap moving forward. This will provide NFL teams with some much-needed flexibility after the cap dropped by roughly 8 percent for next season.

Not the same, it has been that way for years. As they pay for ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox also.
ESPN is in base packages, and anymore so is NFLN.

This is a streaming pay service, not included in some package where you get 100 extra channels for $20 more.

No, it is carried on a terrestrial signal in home markets.
I consider “ Free TV” to be with rabbit ears which I actually still use on a couple alternative TV’s in my Cave. Absolutely free.

NFL Network and ESPN need cable or satellite provider.

It’s expected. Now take the deal from DIRECT TV and let the nation watch every game even out of the market now that would be something

In a sports cave like mine with multiple TVs much like a sports bar it’s difficult not to need a satellite provider. I can run 3 tvs off of one genie. I currently have 3 genies in the house.

Counting the bedrooms , sports cave and patio I can have up to 9 TV’s running at once. Difficult to stream all of those .

It’s simply an expense I’m willing to incur for convenience.

How are you running 3 tv's on one genie? Can they be programmed to different channels?

They did lose 4 billion this year, so those full stadiums do make a difference.
