Can’t imagine only one of the top 3 picks being defense
And any player taken in top 3 rounds has a good chance of being a factor

Here is my deal on D. I could be dead wrong but just my deal. Over the years...decades really..all the really great Ds had swagger. Ravens, Steelers, Seahawks etc. It takes talent to make that but it also takes a system that guys buy into where they know their roles and thrive in it. Many great players in these top teams went elsewhere and were shown to be just good not great so it takes a unit that knows their roles with the talent.

So taking your scenario and adding Quinn with the new guys...this years draft, FAs, Diggs...you have a chance to get to middle of the pack from bottom dweller and I say that with excitement because it’s young guys buying in. But middle of the pack would seem monumental. Of course it could be a bust but I’m hoping my scenario is where we head. The one X factor is can you get Jaylon to stay on his lane and follow his assignment with some other vets. They have to buy in too

My opinion is that we'd get run all over without a decent 1T. We might be able to get some instant impact with a 2nd or 3rd round DT but that's not typical from what I've seen.

Middle of the road at best. There would still be a weakness in the middle (questionable pass rush from the tackle position at best, health related issues at MLB and an inconsistent performer in Wilson with a guy coming off of an Achilles tear in Kazee at safety), and it remains to be seen what they get from the outside rush players (Lawrence hasn't gotten the sack numbers the last two years, and Gregory still remains an unknown quantity across a full season. There's very little behind them).

being 15/16 as opposed to 30-32 last season is total win with one off-season to make changes by quinn..

I think the coaching change it self will be huge! Last year the defense slightly improved after Nolan was let go. Adding a few players on the defense will also help.

Since we're dealing with hypotheticals, I'll say the addition of Dan Quinn alone makes this defense better than 2020.

Mike Nolan's "multiple" scheme was trash and that's why he's been fired by several teams. The vast majority of the Cowboys' personnel were drafted by the old Garrett/Marinelli regime and simply did not fit.

I'm hoping a return to a more traditional 4-3 (or 4-2-5 in today's NFL) makes a world of difference. And if Dallas gets Keanu Neal they'll have a linebacker-safety that will never have to come off the field- like a poor man's Darren Woodson.

If they did that and added a couple more pieces in the draft (simply competent depth/rotation pieces) then I’d be optimistic.

I hope Surtain is still there at 10. I’ve been sold on him as the best case pick for a while now (our of likely scenarios at least).
