I have a what if question about the defense

Hard to say. Last year we had a lack of talent on the field and a bad scheme on top of that.

If the players we bring in, FA or draft, turn into five starters, then I think we'll be much better. Hopefully Quinn won't try the square peg/round hole approach.

Taking the temperature here. What if we sign Neal for WLB and Kazee and then draft Surtain at 10 but don't really add another defensive player that figures to be a big factor this year.

What's your opinion on that defense in 2021 under Dan Quinn?

I still worry about the DL especially DT.

the secondary would have high potential especially if Neal and Kazee can stay healthy.

the issue with them isn’t talent or production. It’s health.

I was hoping we would maybe take a peek at Barmore for DL but pretty sure that is gone with our signings.

What is the record for least yards and points allowed

It will be better than Nolan. They know this defense and Quinn will take more chances than Marinelli did.

Having said that Hill won’t be ready for awhile, and we still don’t know if Gally is any good.

I’m also curious how Quinn will play LVE and Jaylon. Still hoping for a Jaylon cut, but will see. Wonder if he moves LVE back to Will.

Middle of the road at best. There would still be a weakness in the middle (questionable pass rush from the tackle position at best, health related issues at MLB and an inconsistent performer in Wilson with a guy coming off of an Achilles tear in Kazee at safety), and it remains to be seen what they get from the outside rush players (Lawrence hasn't gotten the sack numbers the last two years, and Gregory still remains an unknown quantity across a full season. There's very little behind them).

Defense are weird sometimes a bunch of no names click and they swarm and it all works. Sometimes big name stars show up out of shape and eat up cap space.
You almost just kinda want a lot of healthy cheap young options and depth to survive the long season. And position flexibility

I'd be mad as hell if the only defensive player we draft is Surtain with the 10th overall pick. We have a ton of other picks and you are suggesting none of those will be on defense? Yes, that would anger me.

I would rank this defense somewhere in the neighborhood of 22nd in the nfl

Chris Jones was just released. Dallas can probably land the top punter in the draft at 44

I could see it being an improvement in coverage. Still think they’d struggle vs the run(lack of DT talent).

I'd be pixxxed to no end coz we WOULD have upgraded only ONE potential position ( Surtain @ CB ) on the league's worst defense.

I think the scheme and the DTs we signed will already improve our defense vs the run.
A FS will help vs the pass, but I’m not convinced Surtain will be much of an upgrade as a rookie. I do find the premise that we won’t find any defensive contributors in rounds 2-4 a bit unbelievable. But I think a healthy Hill and the second year of Gallimore, along with our recent signees, mean a defense ranked close to the middle.

Its better. Not great but better. Still have questions. Are Watkins and Urban going to be useful against the run? How good is Neville Gallimore going to be? Also, will Kazee have fully recovered?

If Neal is healthy he can be a factor. People here will laugh but I think Urban is a much better get than some realize. If Quinn plans to implement his Seattle defense we are going to need a guy to the dirty work at the 4 technique. That ain’t going to be Lawrence. Urban is a 2 down player that’s going to hold up on the edge. Think Red Bryant in Seattle’s defense. I think in he base defense Lawrence will be the RDE. Where we still need work is at DT.
