I like Horn, but no way is he a top 10 pick. If we traded out if that position maybe. But definitely not at 10

I was all on board with Pitts as well and still am enamored with the prospect, but after reading all the hype on Pitts I really wanted to take a closer look, so I dove into some tape on Pitts, and while along the way I came across Surtian and Horn that handled Pitts very well.

I think the "Pitts destroys SEC corners" narrative is incredibly overblown. Yeah, it's impressive that Pitts is capable of functioning out wide at his size, but it didn't happen all that often. The sample size is miniscule, and the results have been greatly exaggerated.

From the media hype surrounding Pitts, you'd think he was routinely twisting outside CBs into knots with his WR-type speed and nuanced route-running. It just isn't so. A smattering of inside slants and very little YAC is closer to the truth. Watch FLA/SC...South Carolina's Jaycee Horn had Pitts on lockdown whenever he ventured out wide. Better yet, watch the Alabama tape; Pitts was manned-up vs. Surtain just four times. First time, Pitts gets away with an obvious push-off on Surtain as the slot fade pass sailed incomplete. Second time, Pitts gets 11 yards on a quick inside slant as Surtain gladly gave him a free release to guard against a deep route. Third time, slot fade, cleanly broken up by Surtain. Last time is the high-point TD over two defenders that everyone uses as evidence of Pitts beating Surtain, when in fact, Surtain wasn't man up with Pitts; he was just late-arriving shallow help for FR. CB Brian Branch, who got Mossed by Pitts along the EZ sideline.

I tend to agree with you on this. Pitts' value is as a TE in mismatches against smaller safeties and slower LBs. Drafting him to spread him out wide where he will be covered by NFL CBs is probably a mistake. In college those CBs are generally a lot smaller and slower but in the NFL he will see some bigger CBs who can run and cut with him. But don't forget Pitts has phenomenal hands and will come down with those jump balls and contested catches. He can be especially effective with a QB who is not a precise passer because he has such a large catch radius. I am not looking to draft him at 10, but if he is the only stud left on the board, I would not be that disappointed if they pick him.

I’d rather take a top ten talent at ten and use some of our other nine picks to move up into the late first if there’s someone there we want. I think there’s a big drop off in talent starting around picks 10-12

Jaycee Horn is better than Farley. Just saying. I'm scared of the lack of a body of work from Farley to take him at 10. Horn is a high production guy and playmaker. Surtain is just a sure bet..a safe pick.

the only consensus is around offensive players so then you’re taking an OT or Pitts or a WR. Is that what you want?

Saw that this am and that's the first mock I've seen with all 3 CB's going in the top 10, some don't have any going until the 10th pick.

This draft is hard for them to figure because of the lack of depth in D and any team in need will have to reach.

Pitts is getting too much buzz to make it out of the top 10. I think he goes in the top 6.

to me the only option really is to trade down if you want defense

well if you think those guys are that good (and I’m not saying one way or another) then stay put and take them at ten. Why trade down to get more picks, some of whom will not make the roster anyway because there aren’t ten openings on the roster, and risk not getting who you want.
I tend to think that proves my point on the talent when everyone can agree on the true top guys like Sewell, Slater, the QBs, Pitts, etc but then guys like Parsons, Horn, and etc are projected all over the place. Sure some of those guys in the teens and 20s will be really good but some will get way over drafted too. Just seems like staying put or even a small move up gets you a higher level of certainty of getting a blue chip player. Always a crapshoot but I like our odds much better at ten or higher than trading down. And if I have to pick, I’d still rather stay put and overdraft someone than try to get cute when we already have more picks than we can keep. JMO

Normally for Quinn style of defense a CB can be found later in the draft. So, that'll be interesting to see how Quinn views the need.
