Let me ask you this? Kiper is a draft expert right, then why 3 months after nobody is playing anymore and after he has studied all these guys does he rerank players like crazy? It's not just because of a 40 time here and there or a bench press. The reason for the rerankings is that he just goes with the flow and his rankings aren't actual rankings, he positions players based on need more than talent.
I didn't even see the knew revised list of his top players but I can guarantee you that he has 5 QBs listed in the top ten. Let me tell you this, 3 of those QBs and maybe 4 would not be in my top ten. Lance wouldn't even be in my top 50 players. QBs are ranked in a draft over what you are hoping they will become, not what they are. Fields, Lance and Mac Jones are 100% NOT top ten players in this draft and I would argue the same for Zach Wilson too, they just play the most desired position in the NFL, QB. That does not mean they should be ranked so high.
This happens every year now, their are usually 1-2 QBs with first round grades in January and by the time we get to March there are 4-6. And every season we here the same thing, oh, there are no good QBs in next years draft and we need to take one of these 5 this year. That exactly what was said in 19 about the QBs that would be available for 2020. They said no QBs worth a first round pick. Then the draft gets closer and closer and you see 4 first round QBs, 3 in the top 10. This year you will probably see 5 in the top 8. Doesn't mean they are 5 of the best players in the draft. Bottom line is these draft experts are a joke and I would really love if they could keep there rankings separate from their mocks, then I would have a little respect for them but they just can't help themselves.

They have to do this to make themselves look good otherwise they wouldn't have a job after so many years of being honest about talent. You can't blame them though this is about their image as much as it is giving draft info they kinda have to follow the trends and the teams' leaked info on who they like, otherwise there would be no rankings just individual write-ups on each prospect and philosophy/scheme fits.

I think people would be disappointed by the NFL guys who do this for a living.

Like there is some all knowing guy or something.

They are all probably closer to Bryan Broaddus, who a lot of you don’t like, then they are some all knowing figure.

I don’t think Kiper is a good talent evaluator...I do think he has connections inside the NFL though. His change in rankings reflects him hearing info from scouts/front office personnel, not because he has done a deep dive on tape.

If you consider Kiper as more of a mouthpiece like Schefter he’s a lot more tolerable.

It’s impossible to evaluate 400 players as it happens live, and you don’t know whose nominating until February.

So it’s totally expected that rankings aren’t dialled in until late in the draft process. It’s not the pro-day results, it’s the evaluations. In saying that, I highly doubt Mel Kipers is grinding through tape these days.

I had heard on another board that Mel Kiper "retired" circa 2015... he'll keep up the media appearances, but he's no longer putting in work outside of class, so to speak.

It fits my biases, so I'm going to uncritically repeat it.

Give credit where it is due. Kiper has been living the dream since before cell phones, since before the freaking internet even. Living the dream from his house and not some drone worker bee in a non descript cube somewhere. Not a bad way to make a living doing something that you love.

Mock drafts are a requirement of sports talk people. They're really nothing more than filler because they seldom readdress them after the draft.

My favorite thing about Kiper has always been his frustration when the teams don't follow his board. He almost tries to make it look like they were going to take his guy but changed their minds.

It is tricky building a board from talking to the NFL people because they love to lie and throw as many rabbit holes as they can.

Forget Hard Knocks, they should do an honest doc of a team and how they build their board and how they address their needs. I would like to see that on the Raiders deciding on Ruggs as their first pick at WR over Jeudy and Lamb. How did they arrive at that?

Players will get reranked right up to draft day. It happens every year. What's the big deal?

Kiper is an incredible entertainer and will give some good information that most people don’t have access too.

He’s a big reason for what the draft is today.

IMO, Mel Kiper is the man and he’s made the draft more fun for all of us.

Because these are "draft experts", something Im not but I can tell you this that two guys like Zaven Collins and Jalean Phillips that most of these experts have ranked around 30-40 will be going top 20 and are easily top 15 players in this draft.

A better question would be why waste so much time ranting about these guys?

He’s living the American dream and [so far] hasn’t been involved in any malicious scandals (that I know of). Dude got rich off of watching college football and making mock drafts, name a better job lol. I don’t think anyone that actually follows football really puts any stock in his opinion(s)
