Apparently you cannot read. Nowhere in my post did I suggest any sort of capital for moving down. The entire thread has nothing to do with what is involved via trade. It's the evaluation of the player that makes zero sense. And you are the smart guy? Lol

Let me clarify something for you that you obviously don’t understand. When someone on a Cowboys forum, talking about the Cowboy’s pick says “I’d take player x at 15 but not 10”....they are implying a trade down, and assuming a fair price for that trade down.

Horn doesn't do anything better than Surtain. Not a single thing. Yeah, I like the edge Horn plays with, but no, the grabby thing isn't overplayed. There's a reason it's in almost every write up about the guy.

Don't get me wrong, Horn is a baller and I'd be fine the the Cowboys wound up with him. Later. Not at 10. And not over Surtain.

He does at least one thing better.

He can and does play on either side, following the top WR. Surtain mainly stays on one side.

Also as others have noted... Alabama as a whole has a much better defense compared to South Carolina.

For sure, Surtain is better now, but the fact that Horn performed the way he did, with worse technique but better athleticism, indicates that he is near Surtain's level as a prospect. That is, Surtain is more polished now, but Horn has (conceivably) everything he needs to be the same type of player.

That is a decent consideration and may down grade the fact that teams didnt throw in Surtain's direction.

Then again i'm one that takes defense as a more team/combination rather than individuals. If Surtain locksdown one side (even against a WR2), it'll allow a deep FS to shade over to help Diggs.

But that's what I'm saying though--with Horn, you're getting a good player right away, but he still has room to grow. That's why I don't think it's a problem to take him at 10 if Surtain isn't there.

This is the same silly logic you guys used with Jalen Ramsey. Can't possibly take Ramsey. He's overrated. Ramsey only had 3 interceptions in 3 years in college, including ZERO in his last season! And all Ramsey did was become arguably the best CB in the NFL.

But yeah, focus on interceptions. It's not surprising that your analysis of CBs is shallow and focuses on interceptions.

Turns out he was a day 1 starter, started every game he every played in, solidified the o-line and made it our strength, went on to become a 4 time pro bowler and an all pro.

I'll take "reaches" like that every time.

I have them neck & neck as prospects. And the tie-breaker for me is the ceiling. If Horn polishes up his grabbiness, he’s got All-Pro/lockdown CB potential.
I’d be ecstatic with both.

I can see that argument, I'm just not sure where it comes from.

If Surtain is better right now and has shown he's plenty athletic, why is his ceiling lower? Cause he runs a tenth of a second slower in the 40? If he's already better technically, and at least equal as far as instincts, why is his ceiling lower? If he already poses elite traits that some NFL starting corners don't have, why wouldn't that immediately lift his ceiling.

I feel like because Surtain already has such good technique, people have written of his ability to get even better. But, because Horn is starting with a lesser toolset, it's easier to envision him getting better.

It happens every year with prospects and it's the most unusual phenomenon. Player A is a technician and therefor pretty much at his ceiling. Player B is as technically sound but runs a little faster. So, player B has a higher ceiling. WUT?! The fact that he's such a technician should further increase his potential. You KNOW he's gonna study. You KNOW he's gonna learn. You KNOW he's gonna get better.

Many of us were not screaming. There's a group here that will scream no matter who the Cowboys pick. I can name them but I won't. They'll start crying to the mods. But just wait until the draft and you'll see.

I don't think its dumb. I think what they're saying is trade down and get the same player you can 13 that you can get at 10 while getting draft compensation. Nothing dumb about that at all. Now its wishful thinking someone would even want to trade up with you to do it but who knows.
