How much should coaches be involved in the NFL Draft ?

- If you're in Wil McClay role and position, how much would you listen to your coaches input when it
comes to selecting players in the draft ?

- How much and to what extent should we listen to coaches pre-draft, per what they want/do not want in a player, scheme fit, etc.

yeh, little wonder this question will bring up thoughts/memory of Marinelli’s influence in the 2017 draft, that McClay decided to reach for Taco Charlton.. for the sake of pleasing Marinelli.

-Because the Cowboys draft war room always visually shows coaches brought in briefly to
phone speak to just drafted players, I can't help but think the coaches had a part in the selection.

Difficult question.

If I were a coach, I would lean toward Parcell's wanting to buy some of the groceries.

As an organization, you should probably trust your scouts and only deviate where the grades between player rank & coach preference is relatively small. Can't let a coach trying to save\prolong his job leave the cupboard bare.

Coaches do need some input, but the scouts should hold more weight in the draft room.

Coaches should provide the prototypes that they are looking for on a positional basis (height/weight/speed/arm length, etc), but should not get much say after that. The scouts spend all year looking at these players, and cultivate the relationships. The coaches spend a month or so on looking at players. It would be asinine to give the coaches more weight in the process.
