Indeed, the Cowboys have too many legitimate needs within their roster to take a quarterback in the first two rounds. But if we're wondering where the line might be for drafting a quarterback when the team already has a great one, it might be worth looking at the origin of the quarterback they currently have, and the successful strategy they took to acquire him. According to Jones, they'll be implementing that same strategy.

"Certainly we'll keep our eye on [drafting a quarterback] just as we did with Dak when we had Tony Romo, a guy who could make a lot of sense for us there in the middle rounds," Jones said.

He’s mobile and a ultra competitor. I think it’s a good look but my problem with him is I don’t see his upside being higher than a backup and I prefer lottery tickets on these types.

The only alternative to this strategy is to sign a journeyman veteran as your backup

I’m ok with that.

I was ok with Dalton and id be ok with Dalton 2.0 whoever that might be.

I also don’t have an issue with us actually spending a 4th or 5th on a developmental QB of higher quality than DiNucci.

How anyone could have a problem with taking a 7th round flyer on a QB like we did with DiNucci though? No risk for a low value pick.

I have no issue with taking a developmental QB.....but if all you are doing is taking a guy just to say you took one? I'd rather draft someone that can contribute.

Exactly. And that's my stance. I have no issue with the approach just who they are doing it with. These guys don't even look like professional football players on tape.

I would seriously hope so DP. They are literally the same guy, right down to the argument as to why they deserve to play in the NFL. Both of those guys biggest asset is that they both have qualities that you can't measure. Leadership is each players best asset.

I don't recall any Patriots fans saying that. There's also Tom Brady....and there's Mike White and Dinucci. Using this argument why don't we just look at undrafted free agent rookies since that's where we got Romo?

Well, if you like Dak, then you gotta like Ehlinger. If you hate Trask, then I understand why you would rather draft him because if you take Trask to QB this Offense, he's guaranteed to fail. He doesn't fit what we do. Trask needs a traditional pocket Vertical Offense. He is a hard fail with RPO Offense IMO.
