Could LSU linebacker Jabril Cox sneak into the back end of Round 2?
(4:05 PM ET) LSU was another school to hold a pro day today. This one was for linebacker Jabril Cox, who is receiving Day 2 grades around the league and could end up in the bottom part of Round 2.

Cox, who participated in the Senior Bowl but sat out the first LSU workout with a hamstring issue, timed between 4.54 to 4.62 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 7.12 seconds in the three-cone drill, and 4.42 seconds in the short shuttle. His vertical jump was 34 inches and broad jump reached 10’3″. Teams on hand included the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and Washington Football Team.

I would not be disappointed with Cox being a 3rd round pick. But it depends on who they pick at 10 and 44.

Why do we need a LB who can't play the run when we already got one of the worst run D in the league?

Im in on Cox. Guy makes plays in the passing game. 26 career PD's and 9 INT's is serious production for a LB. Not a notable run defender, but I think that has been over stated here. Id rather have him than Bolton

1st job of LB is to play the run. A pure 3rd down only LB is not worth a pick in the 1st 3 rounds.

Perhaps he really is strong safety and should switch positions. He maybe better utilized in that way.

In run packages, your right. On passing downs his first job is coverage.

Besides Cox isnt as a weak a run defender as people are starting to believe

Cox isn't a good run defender, but he is at least assignment sound. That's our biggest killer IMO... Jaylon and LVE have literally no clue where they are going half the time, they are running like chickens with their heads cut off. An LB who simply fills the right gap is an automatic huge upgrade to the run D.

LVE had a down year, but when healthy he’s shown he can be a + LBr in the league. This is in large part to him having good instincts.

Cox’s negative is lacking instincts...which should be a glaring red warning light for any LBr prospect. He would not be close to be an upgrade over LVE if healthy.

Then Cox can go out on the field and we can bench Jaylon. I'm just tired of seeing those two blow assignments on run plays over and over again.

I just don’t think you see much difference with Cox. Jaylons lack of instincts is why he racks up tackles 5+ yards past the line of scrimmage all game.

Id actually really like him if we had a nasty DL and run D wasn’t such an issue...he’s just a terrible match IMO. You can’t teach instincts.

Cox reminds me of a cover CB...he makes plays in the passing game, and gets by in the run game. I think Dallas needs LBs with some thump to add some toughness to the group.

I like Jabril, but not really for the Cowboys. Actually he's more of a Rover to me, hybrid.

Our LBs suck in pass coverage, we could definitely use a LB with coverage skills and Cox is considered the best in the draft.
