This is one way that I’d like the Cowboys picks to happen tomorrow through Saturday. I do think they could make significant headway in getting their defense caught up to the offense in Dallas.

Rd. 2 pick 44 - Jevon Holland FS Oregon 6-1 200 lbs.

Rd. 3 pick 75 - Milton Williams DL La Tech 6-3 285 lbs.

Rd. 3 pick 80 - Ronnie Perkins Edge Oklahoma 6-3 251 lbs. *See trade details below.

Rd. 3 pick 99 - Alim McNiel DT South Carolina 6-2 315 lbs.

Rd. 5 pick 179 - Kenny Yaboah TE Ole Miss 6-4 247 lbs.

Rd. 6 pick 227 - Garrett Wallow LB TCU 6-2 240 lbs.

Dallas trades picks:
  • Rd. 4 pick 115 (64 value)
  • Rd. 4 138 (37 value)
  • Rd. 6 192 (13 value)
  • 2022 Rd. 4 pick
Las Vegas trades pick:
  • Rd. 3 pick 80 (190 value)
I made the trade up because Dallas has a lot of later picks and I’d rather see a little bit of a “quality over quantity” frame of mind from the team and because the way the first couple of rounds fell for Dallas, I wasn’t able to get an EDGE player that I feel the team needs to add to its depth there.

In the third round there was a lot of prospects that I liked for Dallas, so giving a couple of 4ths this year along with a 4th from next season seemed like a better decision than having to choose between picking an EDGE (Perkins) and a 1T (McNeil). With this trade I was able to sacrifice some later picks but still come out of the third with an ideal 3T/1T/EDGE combination. It is a tactic that I hope the team follows in this draft.

Dallas’ Picks:

Jaycee Horn - has been a target of the Cowboys for a while now and was grades so close to Patrick Surtain that they essentially have the same grade for Dallas. His attitude and aggression win the day in a Dallas war room that is split between the two corners. Just what the team needs in terms of position and in terms of alpha mentality.

He’s a day one starter and will be a fan favorite in Dallas. Having Horn, Diggs, Brown and Lewis as Dallas’ first 4 corners is a very good group.

Jevon Holland - He’s a smooth, instinctive player that is a scheme fit for Quinn’s important FS position. He has a nose for the football and can do just about anything you want in the secondary. After going to Oregon’s pro day, I believe this player is second behind Moehrig in Quinn’s mind and he’s the player that Dallas wanted to target in the second round.

Holland can compete for snaps at FS right away and should see a ton of play time in year one.

Milton Williams - An athletic marvel who tested in the 99th percentile (DT) athletically and a guy that Dallas has shown a ton of interest in. Williams isn’t just a great athlete though. He’s extremely strong for his size, great against the run, competes like crazy, did the dirty work with zero complaints, and will be playing a much better position for himself in Dallas (3-tech DT). Adding him to the rotation with Hill and Gallimore makes a huge difference in the confidence that the 3T spot will be fixed.

He will play early and often with his rookie floor being the designated inside pass rusher on nickel downs, where he will probably team with Gallimore in pass rush sets where Quinn uses two 3T tackles.

Ronnie Perkins - An EDGE rusher who could excel as a LEO in Quinn’s scheme as well as possibly playing at the SAM LB spot to hold the edge and send a 5th pass rusher after the QB. He gives peace of mind that if Gregory gets hurt, they’ll still have a good pass rush at LEO. If he plays some at SAM, sending Lawrence, Gregory and Perkins after the QB could create problems for the offense.

Perkins should see a lot of snaps giving Gregory a break and playing the SAM at times.

Alim McNiel - The best 1T/NT in this draft IMO, and one of my favorite players. He has everything you could want at his position and even though his pass rush isn’t great, he definitely can get a push in the passing game. I think he would solidify the entire DL and be a cornerstone player on that unit.

He should see plenty of snaps as a rookie and could quickly play himself into a starting role.

Kenny Yaboah - A very good athlete, he needs some development but has the tools to be both a very good receiver as well as productive in the running game. Let him grow behind Shultz and Jarwin and Dallas just might end up with a very good player.

Likely won’t play much as a rookie but his ceiling is high down the road.

Garrett Wallow - Fast and nimble, he has the ability to provide depth and speed to a position that needs it. While there’s a chance he might one day become a starter, he should be a core special teams player for Bones.

Robert Rochell - Special teams player that has the size to perhaps grow into a CB that fits Quinn’s scheme.

I obviously focused on the defense in this mock and it is all players that I personally like for Dallas. I question if Williams will fall to the third but I certainly have seen him going that late. I’ve seen McNeil going anywhere from the late second to the early 4th, so the third seems about right for him. Likewise I’ve seen Perkins from the second to the late 3rd, so it is reasonable to think that he might make it to the mid 3rd round.

Ultimately, this is an exercise in which positions I value and where I’d like to address them, as well as some of the players that fit in Dallas. If it did fall this way, I’d consider it a huge success and a big step towards defensive respectability.

As it is, if the draft falls similarly to this, I’ll be happy although it’d need to be the right players for me to think they nailed it.

Man that is alot of talent added to the defense. I think getting Holland at 44 will wind up being incredible value. Guy is a 1st round talent IMO, especially after he put the athletic questions to rest. Williams I am a fan of, and I thought he worked himself out into the high second. However, I think he will come down a bit because he is likely a 3T only in the NFl. His length might hurt his stock. However as a 3rd round 3T, thats great value. He is a better prospect than the two we have drafted recently.

Would really like it but your missing a LB early.

I wouldnt take 2 DTs in the Third and im not a fan of Williams.

I rather take McNeil and one of the top rated LBs left in the third.

-We know Pitts stated Horn was he toughest matchup, hearing NFL corners really liking Horn
-Team must get one of the three Safeties, with Molden as a fallback. Don't care if they need to reach a little as drop-off significant at the position.
-McNeil is the best 1T in the entire class, like you added a lot of depth along the DL

I love it, just by reading/watching player evaluations on this board. I really like how defensive-heavy it is.

Great effort and I would happily take this if it fell that way!

It's a good draft. I've got the same first 3 picks in my draft. I've got them taking an edge rusher but it's Odeyingbo a little later. I've got McNeil in mine too. I took John Bates TE/Boise State instead, but similar ideas.

For the most part I like it.
Would like to have seen a OT even if it was a later round project.

Also, unless he becomes an UDRFA...I like Avery WIlliams from Boise State over Robert Rochelle.
This would be purely for ST return abilities.

Like it a lot. Except for the fact we need another LB. starting quality at that.

Awesome draft **!

Really hope the Cowboys can pull off a trade like this. 5 top 100 picks is EXACTLY what the defense needs. Might need to take more than one LB.

I read somewhere that the Cowboys dont like Grant that well, they will take Holland if he fell to 44.

Would really like it but your missing a LB early.

I wouldnt take 2 DTs in the Third and im not a fan of Williams.

I rather take McNeil and one of the top rated LBs left in the third.
I nearly did McGrone in the third. He’s one a really like.

For the most part I like it.
Would like to have seen a OT even if it was a later round project.

Also, unless he becomes an UDRFA...I like Avery WIlliams from Boise State over Robert Rochelle.
This would be purely for ST return abilities.

I love A Williams and actually had him written down there instead of Rochell. However, I took him off because I think he’ll for sure be gone before the 7th round. I would rather have Williams for sure.
