Reflecting back on the draft

The draft went almost exactly how I thought it would. Mostly defense with some OL later on and a speed WR. Going into the draft I had some goals, get some ballhawks in the secondary, upgrade the pass rush, improve our turnover ratio, and get better against the run. Looking at these guys stats was a bit of a surprise to me but it looks like if they can translate it to the NFL we landed some playmakers. Osa is incredibly strong in his upper and lower body, Golston is tenacious with a non stop motor the whole game, Parsons is a freak of nature, MM said they wanted ballhawks and they got them with every DB they picked, Cox is the best coverage LB in the draft, and Bohanna isn't supposed to fill up a stat sheet and yet he had 9,5 tackles for loss. It's a numbers game and I like all of the picks they had and I'm sure some of these guys will rise to the top. We should know pretty early, with guys like Sean Lee and Darren Woodson you just knew from their first year they were going to be good players. Overall I'm excited to see these guys come in and compete.

Cox had 3 ints 1 sack and 3.5 tackles for loss (in one season)
Joseph had 4 ints (in one season)
Parsons had 5 sacks 18 tackles for loss and 6 forced fumbles
Osa Odighizuwa had 11.5 sacks and 27.5 tackles for a loss and 2 forced fumbles
Chauncey Golston had 27 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks and 3 ints.
Quinton Bohanna 9.5 tackles for loss 2 sacks 1 forced fumble
Nahshon wright had 5 ints
Israel Mukuamu had 7 ints

I know how he does on the field is what matters but I really enjoyed this interview with Chauncey Golston.

I think we reached too much in the 3rd which sucks, but this draft HAS to help the run D.

- Parsons is the best defender in the draft with elite run D skills
- The more I watch Gholson the more I think he’s one of the better run defending DEs in the class
- The 1T from Kentucky is a mountain...gives us an anchor if he makes the team

Add in a few new CBs to compete with Robinson (who I loved as a prospect) and hoping we hit on 2/4.

That bothered me at first but after I thought about it I decided it was a weak DT draft class with a lot of land mines. I think they got guys they wanted that are safe picks that obviously can play and should upgrade our front seven.

I get it...and I guess when you think about it there isn't a player on the roster that can give you that 2 gap, run D ability on the outside except Lawrence who they are going to want free rushing the passer more. With DL rotating a lot I understand wants 2 guys that can do it.

I just wouldn't have been surprised if we could've had 1 or both a round later.

Gholston and Wright were the worst picks to me, outside of Ball. They felt way too early. That said, it's clear they're both good at football. Gholston having interceptions is interesting.

I cant say it went the way I was thinking in fact I didnt want Parsons but on reflection he's going to add boom and we also may not bring back one of our LB big names.
I like Joseph the interview he didnt sound arrogant at all.
I have expectations for Odiggie we'll see. We helped our team.
We're going to be a better team all around

Actually, the first round of the draft played out almost exactly as expected. No real surprises I think, with the exception of JOK dropping out of the 1st round. After the first things got a little more unpredictable. I felt if the Cowboys had been picking just a few spots earlier in each round they could have had a knockout draft.

We might could have gotten them later, but then again, they could’ve been gone. If those two players were at the top of their board and were the players they wanted there, you go ahead and take them. Isn’t that what everyone is always saying? Follow your board.

Those 2 defensive linemen that they took in the 3rd are solid players.
