Honestly this is good for him. HE balls out this year and he gets paid. I'd be excited to not have a team use my option but they most always do if you're playing well.

The gambler in me would still re-sign him....in hope he gets back to form because his rookie season is one of the best you're ever going to see from a linebacker.

Exactly ........just to be clear, as stated in another thread, if he has a healthy career year, they will not let him walk w/o tag. Tough deal for the kids but he may one of those players whose body just can't hold up 16 games without nagging injures ( Sean Lee ).

His career can end strongly too many years from now. This coming season he just has to be who we drafted and he will get a contract extension.

Not sure about the extension.......think they would tag him first. In other words, use the extra to prove he can stay healthy.

This is how LVE has to be feeling after Neal was signed in FA, and watching Parsons and Cox get drafted lol

not the end of the world,if can stay healthy then there is a good chance he can get a deal here but Jaylon is done after this season no matter what.

It's just smart football move.

You just can't lock in 9.2mil on a guy who has struggled to stay healthy/not been a force since his rookie year.

He'll still get a shot at being a long term guy here this year, but now we aren't forced to roll into 2022 with Smith, UFA LVE and unknowns.

If healthy and back to his rookie self, he would fit into any scheme in this league, so I doubt Quinn wouldn't love a healthy LVE. Just that we haven't seen that in some time and we can't be held hostage by that any longer.

"right part of the country"? Is that some kind of wisecrack? Do we have a wrong part of the country for football players?

I think LVE plays very well this year.
Hopefully you are correct. The reality is that this is a year to year league. He will get his chance to show he can stay healthy and lead this team. Same goes for Jaylon. The linebackers are the strength of the defense now.

What lmao Calm down. He was good his rookie season but lets calm down lol Best you will ever see from a linebacker lol.
I think the meant one the best you'll see from a rookie LB, not a LB overall.

I still don't really agree with it, but he did way more then I expected of him. Darius Leonard won rookie of the year that year and he for sure had one of the best rookie LB seasons in league history.
