The belief is Looney will get signed to a minimum contract at some point before camp starts. Apparently he's still in the area and works out at the facility. Beyond that, I don't see Jones & Jones spending any more money.

I think they wait to see what they have in OTA's and mini camps.

Though all of them are intriguing, except not so sure about Sherman.
Looney would be good for C depth, but then what young player gets released. I know many will say Williams.

they will wait until an injury in camp or if a bunch at one position look horrible ad cuts are neccesary..no need to rush out yet until we see what we have in this group..most will still be there a month from now maybe longer..

I wish these writers would forget about the big ticket items and high profile players. In this case, numbers 1-4 on his list. The only guy I can see this team in the mix for is Looney.

We don’t have the money.

Nope .

The only street FA i'd consider is Joe Looney and that's because he knows our system, teammate/locker room rapport, able to flex as a utility backup C and OG,
and he'd very likely be dirt cheap but team seems set to have either both or one of the Conners fill in as emergence center.

- McGovern has had some reps in college (Penn State) at the center role, while Williams reportedly had a few reps last summer in training camp.

- Sherman is done as a coverage CB, he's gonna need zone and cushion more than ever now, with a very strong support cast, right scheme
and team, you could probably get away with him. But we've already well invested in CBs in this draft class (2nd, 3rd rd draftees)
and not engaging in more than minimal cost. No openings here.

- Richardson reportedly is having off field issues, and he's not been much since bouncing around NFL with several teams.
i'd want to see in our own 3 techs and newcomers.

- Nope to Vernon, not even a chance, imo. with Dlaw, Gregory, Basham, Anae and two draftees when we go 3 man front, - we're already well invested in DE's.

- Short may be damaged goods too (ala McCoy) he hasn't been able to stay healthy since ....and who knows what wear toll he may have on him now.

I have a personal favorite that I would like to add to the list:

Guard Kelechi Osemele. A cheap veteran who was playing dominant football last year prior to getting hurt. I’ve seen workout videos showing he’s again in great shape and I would love to sign him to compete at left guard.

They don’t have the cap space and Stephen wouldn’t spend it on decent FAs if he did have some cap space available. To build a winning team in the modern NFL, good drafting is needed , along with smart FA signings. The draft is what it is, but Stephen seems to have the worst approach to free agency in the league. I don’t think that the big FA signing are worth it 99% of the time. Signing the lowest tier of talent to cheap contracts is not the answer either. I don’t understand why signing mid-tier talent to reasonable contracts never happens since Stephen took over. Using FAs to fill in holes on the roster should be a part of building a team, but I guess Stephen didn’t get the memo on that.

I'll finally say what the Cowboys say "WE LIKE OUR GUYS!" it's a numbers game now, let's see what we have here

I think it comes down to the Cowboys pro scouting department being truly awful. They go a good job overall on college scouting but the pro side sucks, and has for some time.

Looney is great depth but I’d want to know if we have a G/C swing guy in the young players before I cut a young player to make room
Bringing him to camp is fine but my reps would go to Biadasz and the young guys because they are much less expensive and they may have a future where looney is great depth but for all the fans who wanted him to be the starter
He’s still home and no one has signed him to be a starter

Nolan Carroll and Ha Ha Clinton Dix would have been pro bowlers for us. So what are you talking about?

:laugh:lol--JK.

We seem to have a knack for signing guys that absolutely nobody else wants who never play again.

Carroll was one and we had two counting Poe just last year (McCoy may make it three).

Quite an accomplishment.

To say that Stephen has the worst approach to free agency is flat out wrong. Stephen has to engage free agency in order to be evaluated if he's good or bad at free agency. It's almost like Stephen has a phobia about free agency. It's like he's scared to look bad. It's weird.

I remember back in '95 when Dallas signed Deion Sanders. Jerry said they were doing it and told Stephen to make it work. They got into an argument and there was a quote out there were Jerry said, "what are you going to do Stephen? Hit me?". I wonder with Deion, Leonard Davis, Joey Galloway and some other FAs or trades in the past that took up major cap space, if that didn't make Stephen gun shy about making major moves. Just a theory

Vernon is an interesting player. I wonder what he has left in the tank. I think Short is Poe 2.0. Richardson might be an option if Bohanna doesn't have enough to make the team, but all of these guys are short terms solutions and will cost more than the Cowboys are willing to pay. As it is, they would have to rework a contract or two to sign any of them except Looney. Which reminds me, they do need an option at C if Biadasz is no good or gets hurt. I am not willing to give that job to McGovern without seeing him play that position at least in pre-season.

sherman is the lone guy I would bring in.Its a nice fit. He is a great bridge player for the youngsters at cb. Makes alot of sense in many ways.
