FAs still available to fill holes

They don’t have the cap space and Stephen wouldn’t spend it on decent FAs if he did have some cap space available. To build a winning team in the modern NFL, good drafting is needed , along with smart FA signings. The draft is what it is, but Stephen seems to have the worst approach to free agency in the league. I don’t think that the big FA signing are worth it 99% of the time. Signing the lowest tier of talent to cheap contracts is not the answer either. I don’t understand why signing mid-tier talent to reasonable contracts never happens since Stephen took over. Using FAs to fill in holes on the roster should be a part of building a team, but I guess Stephen didn’t get the memo on that.
He and his father are still trying to remember the secret handshake they used when Deion was signed way back when. It was a really involved dance they did right before the handshake..with the virus no more handshakes..so they are stuck. So are we. Stuck that is. It's a sports fan's life or a sports nightmare..take your pick.

Forgive me because I am dyslexic but "Dez's dead, baby. Dez's dead"

I can see from this list only Looney being brought back as C depth. And that would be a good signing.

There are other players outside of this list that I would consider. Mostly at the CB position.

Bashaud Breeland (CB), Earl Thomas (S), Steven Nelson (CB), Brian Poole (CB), Malik Hooker (S), Jeff Driskel (QB), Blake Bortles (QB), Nick Mullins (QB), Trent Murphy (DE), Vic Beasley (DE)

Vernon is an interesting player. I wonder what he has left in the tank. I think Short is Poe 2.0. Richardson might be an option if Bohanna doesn't have enough to make the team, but all of these guys are short terms solutions and will cost more than the Cowboys are willing to pay. As it is, they would have to rework a contract or two to sign any of them except Looney. Which reminds me, they do need an option at C if Biadasz is no good or gets hurt. I am not willing to give that job to McGovern without seeing him play that position at least in pre-season.

I would understand that stance on McGovern, but i dunno if limited series in 2 limited preseason games is gonna be sufficient tell all. Training Camp battles vs Osa,
Gallimore and Hill is gonna add to the evaluation.
Now if they are really not interested in re-signing Looney as a utility backup, that clues me to think they want one of those Connors to be the immediate fill in.

- Phillipin really didn't seem to want to play McGovern early on, until he was forced to by injury. That still gets to me. But i'm hoping by not re-signing Looney
that Joe P' has had a reconsideration of the Governor after seeing him in action. He wasn't dominant, but he didn't embarrass himself either at RG.
I'm factoring Brandon Knight into the OG mix too. yeh he can/will help in a pinch once Tyron gets his injury hit again, but i'm hoping the likes of Ty Nsekhe
is any good because we're gonna need bodies.

I'm strongly assuming either one or even both of the Connors will get long looks at the center position in OTA, camp and maybe even preseason.
I still think about Williams as an OT and would love take a serious long look at him there. He's going into his last year on his contract and he's not
impressed as an OG, why not take a look at him on the edge with his athleticism and former position ?
Plus he could help out at OT in an injury pinch.

geez.., is that all that's left of the backup QB roles in FA? ....i guess no one is excited to get Bortles on their team anytime soon ?

I think they wait to see what they have in OTA's and mini camps.

Though all of them are intriguing, except not so sure about Sherman.
Looney would be good for C depth, but then what young player gets released. I know many will say Williams.

Put a fork in Sherman as a CB.

Would sign Sheldon Richardson, DT needs a war daddy.

I think it comes down to the Cowboys pro scouting department being truly awful. They go a good job overall on college scouting but the pro side sucks, and has for some time.
I agree. The pro scouting is horrible. If you take a hard look at it, the college scouting on the defensive side of the ball is not as good as the offensive scouting. I hope this defensive draft is improved from previous drafts. I did see that some of the defensive picks that Dallas made was rated a couple rounds lower than the position where Dallas drafted them. Quinn was heavily involved with those picks, but I don’t know if that is a good thing or not. It seems like a lot of the failed draft picks in the past were coach’s picks.

Looney
Sherman
Short
Vernon
Richardson

That's the best 5 he could come up with? Weak.
