About as stupid of a personnel move as you could do.

I can understand Meyer wanting to help Tebow out by putting him in a position to get on an NFL team, since plainly no other team would. I'm sure in his mind Tebow thinks he can still be a productive NFL player, but he could never know unless he got another chance, that had to gnaw at him. For Meyer to do what he did to me is a way for Tebow to finally realize that he is not, and was never, a top NFL player. Sort of like a funeral, a way to show people that "It's over, here's the person you knew as a living human being, he's gone. Face reality."

And the fact is (as I recall) other teams were willing to put Tebow on a team as a tight end, but he refused, insisted he had to play quarterback. But now? "Sure I'll play tight end". No, you had your shot, you refused so don't start backtracking. It's unbecoming.

Let Tebow get on the filed, get schooled by some mid-level defensive player and give him the slap in the face he apparently needs to learn the painful truth.

Hey, I'd love to see Tebow become a 53-man roster player and do well, that'd be a great story. Most of us love the underdog, myself included. Prove the doubters (including me) wrong.

I cannot fathom this being anything more than a publicity stunt. If he makes the team and contributes, you guys can come and crow how wrong I was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacksonville just trying to capitalize on his local popularity, no other team would have considered him as an on-field contributor. Maybe that would take some of the pressure off Lawrence with Tebow getting all the media attention.

Hadn't thought about this but it likely makes the going to play baseball move all the more confusing and the desire now to get a roster spot more sensible.

It's potentially a good Jax attention move but it feels very Barnum and Bailey at this point.

Tebow trying to go out and block a legit NFL defender does not seem a like a great idea.

People are getting their panties in a wad over Tebow trying to make the last spot on the roster with zero guarantees in his contract.
It's bizarre.
Who cares?

I suspect they want to try him at TE and also want to consider him in goal-line packages at QB, as the Saints do.
Doesn't mean it'll work but all the coaches at the tryouts told Meyer---Meyer did not force this---that he was in world-class shape and looked good.

I have no idea at all how it'll turn out, but I really don't see some big risk.
If it doesn't work out. So what. They currently have ZERO guarantees to Tebow.

If that's the purpose, I can think of hundreds of marginal players for whom the pension would make a much bigger difference in their lives than it's likely to for Tebow.

They aren't remotely the same college players. Only thing similar is that both are fast and played receiver.

Ginn ran like 3 routes at OSU and was more track athlete than receiver.

He's a far better prospect than Ginn was, and coming into the league at a time where those types of receivers have a much greater chance at success. Not really comparable.

I expect him to be a gadget player for them. Sure you can get a UDFA TE who could compete with Tebow for the position, but can he throw? Can run bulldoze on the 2 yard line like Tebow, even at 33? TE I believe will just be the placeholder name for his position. He’s there so that when you see him trot out on the punt team, it makes the opposite’s ST coordinator go wide-eyed
