Media is so silent and has given MM a pass over last year’s defense . The usual excuses , a bad defensive coordinator and the firing solves it !!
Or Dak was hurt , as if that would have made any difference, cowboys were 1-4 when dak went down and some of these losses were embarrassing.

That crap D is what Garrett built over 10 years. Expecting McCarthy to fix it in one with no offseason at all is ridiculous.

Anyone else think the defense is going to make a fairly big jump this year? Maybe not top 10 but at least middle of the road and a noticeable increase in turnovers.

With how bad this defense was last season there is only one way to go from there: up.

So yes... its impossible to get any worse. *knocks on wood*

Just throwing this out there- I think a big part of 2020's struggles can be attributed to the fact the Cowboys weren't as prepared as other teams for a virtual offsesaon. Teams with returning staffs had an advantage in this area, but still, in my opinion Dallas handled it poorly.

With those lessons learned maybe we see a more polished and prepared team in 2021.

There were two very damning things in the post draft press conference that apparently slipped past you guys but not the reigning, defending, undisputed Likesweight Champion of the World.

1) Needing the Vice President of Player Personnel there to talk about the players selected, with the GM and the Director of Player Personnel present but not capable.

2) Stephen claiming what happened on defense last year was a bit of an aberration. Just bad luck. Happenstance. It couldn't possibly be the personnel because that's on us and well,.... Will, tell them why we have really good players.

The delusional incompetence that has turned this team into losers for the last quarter of a century was on full display there. Rather than start a thread on it I was waiting for someone to point that out. No one did.

I still have a lot of work to do here.
Post like this are the reason why you deserve the big bucks. The GM job in Dallas should be yours for the taking.

How nice of MM to give the players one less OTA day. This will go a long way with player respect.

Only 31 in rookie camp is low. They usually sign a few more UDFA's as well bring in 10 to 15 invitees. This year they only brought in 4.

That is ok, as 2 were QB's, which they had to have anyway. Maybe they feel good with the draft and udfa. So it gives them all more reps to get to know the schemes. More info on each player for evaluations.
MM probably wanted a massage and he cancelled OTAs to keep from them interfering. He learned his lesson in Green Bay about skipping team functions for massages, so he just cancels the team functions now to avoid criticism.

No, Marinelli should get the credit for this mess. He chose his players while Garrett sat at the end of the table and talked to Charlotte.

They'll get back to respectability with the coordinator change but unless this defensive line improves they'll never be a good defense.

Unless Gregory has a career year they will struggle to get to the QB.
The key is keeping him on a pitch count. But don't worry, we've got Golston.

I expect this version of the Cowboys' defense to carve out a clearly better level of play in the coming season. How much better just remains to be seen. Now, it may take a while for them to get settled but in the end, they'll likely be far better than last year. (After all, they could, hardly, be worse.) ;)

Here's hoping Mike McCarthy makes a rebound from the curse of a setting last year! No HC deserves being forced to deal with the practically impossible circumstance that prevailed in 2020. I'm wiping the slate clean in the hope that noticeable progress is forthcoming in 2021. A little mercy can't be out of the question, even within the scalding fan kettle that boils within the Cowboys Zone. Let he who's perfect cast the first stone! Let's ease up, fellas. o_O

You are right about Garrett’s legacy and defense . The problem is that MM picked the wrong guy to fix it and actually got it to be worse . MM has proven nothing so far . Even his game time offensive calls have been questioned.

So, regression to the mean. Some of y'all will crow about improvement but variability tends to move you back toward average after an extreme performance

Well said. Last years bar is like a baby rolling over. It's not even close to a real measuring stick. If we don't clear last years bar by a mile, something is really wrong.

If nothing else, you would hope the players allowed to leave and the draft selections would drive home the point that jobs aren't safe. People tend to perform better when risk is involved.

Is McGovern in the top 2 at OC?

He played a significant number of games at OC in college but I don't think he played any snaps at OC last season.

Who are the options at OC other than Biadasz and McGovern?
This is a good point. Unless he can truly distinguish himself as an unquestionable starter over Williams, this fact could leave McGovern as a backup at both OG and C.

So basically after 3 years he is considered a mini bust ? Another draft selection error as he was selected in round 3 , 90 overall .

He has actually only had one year so far. He was injured his rookie year, and the 2021 season hasn't happened, so it's a bit off base to say "after 3 years", and premature to call him a bust. I think most folks felt he played pretty well in Martin's absence last year.
