What exactly has Jarwin done for some to automatically be the starter over Schultz?

The one game vs the putrid Giants a few years back?

I like Jarwin too and think the Cowboys were smart in his extension but I thought Schultz showed that he can be a starter in this league last year. I think Jarwin is a better down field threat, and faster, but Imo Schultz is the better blocker.

Jarwin is like the LVE of the offense. Have seen impressive flashbacks followed by inconsistent performance and consistent unavailability.

Schultz wasn't really given the chance to emerge and show what he can be at best.
Really Didn't help matters that the Witten/Garrett fiasco utterly slowed any chance of progress he could make.

- By being so limited, so less reps and seemingly phased out by having other guys in front of him, i believe his self-confidence really deemed to a new low.
including shaky drop passes hands.

- With a new HC that finally sent Witten on a his way in a different direction, and Jarwin unfortunate ACL injury
that gave Schultz his big chance to show what he can do.

- Where would Schultz be right now if Witten and Garrett where still here ?
He’s great injury insurance for Jarwin who not only will we see if he’s anything close to his previous playing form, but there’s already been instances where he’s either missed time
or very limited by injury.

- I found it ironic that vet Blake Bell a blocking TE, signed for 1 year and returned right back to where he departed in FA, ..to KC Chiefs.
But we’ve found another blocking role TE to compete with McKeon.

- However I do believe we won’t re-sign Schultz when he becomes a FA, because i expect some NFL team to overpay for his services based off 2020 performance.
And why would we be investing & committing more money in two TEs ?

I see us keeping four TEs again.
1) Jarwin
2) Schultz
3) Sprinkles
4) McKeon
sorry just cant get on board with player named sprinkles.. hes cut..:):lmao2:

I agree somewhat about the chances but you seem to forget when he did play he couldn’t block and he dropped passes. Confidence was lacking for sure. He was excellent last season.

Having a healthy Jarwin returning that was considered ahead of Schlultz until the injury.. now fast forward and Schultz proved himself worthy when given the chance, so this is a dangerous full blown passing offense as you can get.

I was real down on Schultz. Thought he was a bust. Boy was I wrong. He was a revelation last season. We are solid here.

Yeah, WFT is going to have to gameplan around these weapons. His 600 yards and 4 TDs last year caused opposing defensive coordinators to quiver in their boots. Jarwin's 600 career yards has him on the path to the hall of fame.

Truth is, none of these guys are NFL caliber starters. They are fringe starters/backups.

Jarwin will be the starter no doubt. Sprinkle only had 34 receptions, but hasn't missed a game in three years.

That suggests he's more of a blocking TE. Both Schultz & Jarwin are better in the receiving department.

I think Schultz is the starter and earned the job last year. He's a better blocker than Jarwin and showed himself to be a good outlet. Jarwin is a better downfield player.

very underwhelming group for sure..
I respectfully disagree with you. Because our receiving corp being what it is, the TE position plays more of a complementary role in this offense. So who do you think we need at TE to make it overwhelming? Remember their is but one ball to go around while you give it a think.

I like Jarwin, but I agree that with the way Schultz played last year it Is not an automatic that Jarwin will be the starter. Of course, at this point Schultz has had more of an opportunity to show what he can do as the starter, but that doesn't mean he isn't as good or better than Jarwin.

My guess is we will see plenty of both of them.

I wish the Cowboys had resigned Bell. Losing him stings a little.
I don't know if this was meant facetiously or if you were serious, but if you were serious I agree. Bell is not a big time TE, but he was the one true blocker we had a TE, and in his limited opportunities he showed he could catch the ball as well. Seemed like most of the catches he did have were for 1st downs. A team could do a lot worse for a blocker/3rd string guy.

Yet many wanted to draft Pitts.

What a clown comment. Seriously a total clown comment. You must be one of those guys that thinks a fantasy football team works in the salary cap era. Not every position needs superstars, Ace. 2 years ago Schultz was nowhere. He was good last year. Proved himself to be a NFL player. Quit the hyperbole. No one here is saying any of these guys are HOF.

How many passes do you think there are to go around? And how many TE's played most of the year with a backup QB?

With Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, Zeke and Pollard, do you think there is room for a 1,000 yard TE, and especially one that wasn't even the intended starter going into the season?

Nevertheless, even with so many other receiving options, and with a backup QB, and with Schultz being thrust into starting duty because of injury, Schultz had the 12th most receiving yards among TE's last year. That's not something to sneeze about.

Is he your boyfriend or something? He isn't even a starter here, so nothing I said is untrue. He's a fringe starter and a fine backup type role player. This group is far from solid.

With all the resources spent on the Oline and WR positions, I'm good with our TEs.
Considering the times a TE is gonna get targeted I think we have two pretty good players in jarwin and Schultz
If one of the young kids wants to beat out sprinkle he better be a solid blocker
But the opportunity will be there for them

I don’t know who will start and it won’t really matter
The one who can play the best will get the most snaps
Both jarwin and Schultz can help this offense in the limited targets they will get
Schultz played well last year and jarwin showed he can stretch the field so I’m sure both will get snaps and who ever does the most with his will get the most snaps

You said none of the Cowboy TE's are starters (now you are backing up a bit and saying they are "fringe" starters), so that is untrue.

Obviously someone will be the starter in Dallas, but even if just talking about whether they are good enough to be a starter, there were 20 teams last year who's TE had fewer yards than Schultz, and most of those got to play with their starting QB's and didn't have 3 receiving alternatives the quality of Cooper, Gallup and Lamb. And of the 11 that had more yards, 5 were within 60 yards of what Schultz had. That clearly indicates Schultz was NFL starter quality. I suspect you judge starting TE's by guys like Kelce and Kittle, but those guys are the exception, not the rule.

The TE position is IMO in better shape than last year. But I would have my eye open for late cuts this August for an improvement.
