Now we are seeing the players in action. I see a lot of enthusiasm and optimism in the OTA thread. Sounds like some people really like their chances of winning with these players who are out there. Is that right?

If so, doesn’t that mean the GM put together a pretty good team on paper this year? Or do we wait for the results first?

Optimism for players - full speed ahead?
Optimism for GM who got the same players - just hold your horses?

Which is it for the team? Full speed ahead or hold your horses? Maybe cautiously excited. Temper expectations. That’s no fun. Go full head over heels in love?

Me, I guess full speed ahead and giddy up and go. I see a contender on paper. Up to the players and coaches to go out and contend.

The enthusiasm is from having the players on the field. Nobody is predicting a Super Bowl win (that I know of).

I'm in full wait and see mode. I want to see progress in the fall and winter. Not buying the hype before the year begins

For most it will be results. It always takes results. “On paper” doesn’t mean much to fans… they want bragging rights and those only come in the depths of winter for this sport.

Just go get it done.

I have always been optimistic this time of the year since 1975, which was many moons before Jerry Jones bought the team and named himself general manager. Eventually, Jones may fairly claim he was responsible for the success this latest draft class might help the franchise achieve. Hopefully, that same Jones-sponsored success will be one or more Super Bowl appearances and/or wins. Life is full of possibilities and Jones being general manager does not exclude him from the fact.

However, it is also a fact Jones has maintained general management for over three decades and counting. It would not have been a mistake for Jones to hire a GM, step down as GM, and allow a different perspective in running the team. And if he had come to the sudden realization that such a change WAS a mistake, he could 'rectify' his miscalculation by reclaiming his title of general manager faster than when he tabbed Quincy Carter as the starting quarterback and kicked Tony Banks to the curb.

To answer the OP question, I say full speed ahead. Does not matter. This has been Jones' wagon train for 32-plus years, with horses tied up in the rear anyway. RAWHIIIIIIDE! YAH!

Hold my horses on defensive line starters full impact on a consistent pass rush.
Hold my horses on backup OL/over all starters' health for a full season.
Hold my horses on beating .500 and above teams.

Guess I'm a Show Me first or hindsight results based guy who agrees with the Mod's meme of respect is earned in the Playoffs.

That consistent respect based on onfield production has been missing for a long while.

So I guess that makes me a Hold your horses type.

It sounds like an excuse but there were some bad breaks last season with the injuries and the self-inflicted wound from going ahead with a new defensive scheme using Zoom to install it.

I like the off season moves including signing the QB because I am selfish, I don't want to wait for another QB to develop and they could end up with one a lot worse than this one, a lot worse.

Should be a fun offense to watch and I believe the D is already better and I don't see a scary team in the NFC.

I also recall how I felt going into the 2014 and 2016 seasons, not high on either and they won 13 games both years.

My horses are getting fresh water and oats. Haven't even thought about leaving for a run yet. Maybe next year.

Every year there are 32 fanbases with optimism, hope and high expectations at the beginning of the regular season. After week #1 there are 16.

So the GM gets a high grade and if the team falters it's on the coaches and players.

I didn't know Jerry had a CZ account.

Vegas prediction has us at 25 / 1 to win. :muttley:
Jazz you know we will be the punching dummy until we show we can win, if I wasn't a super fan I wouldn't bet on the Cowboys either.

The GM had help. OTA pace is not "full speed". They are teaching and doing drills. Nothing to really get excited about other that it's back to normal.

To me what’s gonna really make this team better isn’t as much about the new players, as the health of the ones we already had
If the oline can stay healthy that means the offense can move the chains and help protect the defense
Health will have a bigger impact than players, though I think parsons will really help the defense
Most of the draft picks and UDFA won’t have much impact
Maybe one or two of the FA help out more than what they teplacex
