The second part is the most important here. He’s holding out being he wants to be paid like a defensive MVP should. If you traded for and signed Gilmore, you’d have…

A top 5 paid WR
A top 5 paid Guard
A top 5 paid quarterback
A top 5 paid defensive end
A top 5 paid interior linebacker
And now a top 5 paid cornerback


At some point this is going to carve into your ability to build depth around the team. Dallas may be able to technically afford him, but they can’t really afford to do it. Know what I mean?

Gilmore is holding out because he wants a new contract so to think trading for him is a good idea in nothing but insane. First you would have to give up at least a 3rd round pick simply put Patriots have said they will take nothing less and if you know the Patriots they will stick to it. Second we aren't going to give a 31 year old CB a five year deal. Third is the cap and it should be apparent to everyone that Dallas isn't going to spend big money on a free agent over 30 plus it appears they have no interest in redoing any other current contract so they will remain tight against the cap.

Like it or not, believe it or not, they seem more than willing to use what they have for the season. But hay as always we will debate it till the end.

I know we have a glutton at CB at the moment, but not a solid option (that we currently know of) opposite Diggs. Gilmore would instantly solidify our starting CB’s … and NE wants to shop him. He should have at least 2 good years left in him. And he is a MUCH better option than Richard Sherman. I was pushing for this before the draft and so was Mike Fisher — and he still is.

On another note, there is something about Kelvin Joseph that I just don’t trust yet. Can’t put my finger on it, but I wouldn’t put too much hope in him at the moment. He has the skill set, but only time will tell if he has the mental focus needed for us to trust him completely.

With Gilmore, here’s how I would see our secondary shaping up:

Gilmore's not even on the market. Besides, IF Dallas were to spend that kind of money, I'd rather see them sign Gallup in 2022 instead of just tagging him.

Are the Patriots likely to trade Gilmore?
At this point, no. Coach Bill Belichick doesn't expect the four-time Pro Bowler to report to minicamp, but he also appears unbothered by the corner's absence. Why? Because the rubber doesn't really meet the road until training camp in late July, when New England would be required to fine Gilmore $50,000 per daily absence, as The Athletic's Jeff Howe notes.

With just over $16 million in 2021 salary cap space, the Patriots likely have the resources to accommodate Gilmore, who's due just a $7 million base salary after taking advance payments on his current deal and is reportedly now seeking top-five CB money.

Cowboys actually do draft well most of the time. Even in hindsight, the drafts are pretty good. When fairly compared to other teams and not cherry-picking a player here and there, the Cowboys are top ten when it comes to the draft.
