1: Randy Gregory: Alot can fall into place if he can be a double digit sack DE

2: Micah Parsons: Him living up to his potential would go along way to improving our run defense. He could potentially be a boost to the pass rush as well. Him being a plus in coverage is probably a ways off. However his current skill set could go a long ways to improving our defense

3A: Donavan Wilson. Provides a diverse skill set at SS. His TO production was very good last year. If he just maintains that pace, its a boon to critial turnover category

3B: Trevon Diggs. Like Wilson, Diggs showed a penchant for getting his hands on the ball with 3 INTs and 14 PD's. Those two keeping that up and even improving on it will go a long way in the W/L column

5: Neville Gallimore. We didnt do a whole lot at DT in the offseason, however Gallimore's play in the 2nd half 2020 was encouraging. We need improved play on the inside, and Gallimore is most likely to provide it

RG and Dlaw both need to have a good year that means we got em coming from both sides
Parsons needs to be the Predator of LB
Someone needs to step up at the DT Position whoever Quinn has needs to be an RB assassin.
Secondary - Someone else has to step it up out there

Gregory, Gallimore and Hill in the trenches. This would make life a lot easier for Lawrence.

Parsons. Would be great if he could hit the ground running and put up a DROY performance.

Wilson. Would love for him to become a consistent punishing playmaker.

Actually I don't think there's any wrong answers, if we can get five players on defense to step up, we're in good shape.
Let's put the "D" back in defense :flagwave:

1. Gallimore
2. LVE
3. Jaylon Smith
4. Urban
5. Bohama

It's all about run defense, especially the defensive tackles. Switch Jaylon with the Buc's MLB and tell me which linebacker would have been more successful, Smith standing behind Suh and Nunez-Roches or Devin White behind Woods and Poe?

Fix the run defense and everything else on defense will follow. Second and short killed this defense last season. Offensive linemen running around in the second tier of the defense killed the linebackers.

Besides the obvious. The greatest LB to ever play in our uniform, Mr. Micah Aaron Parsons. That's low hanging fruit.

1. Randy Gregory
2. Quinton Bohanna
3. Neville Gallimore
4. Damontae Kazee
5. Leighton Vander Esch

Honorable mention: Keanu Neal

I'd play Cox from the jump but they won't. So they need at least one of those LBs to play well.

Diggs - if he has a sophomore slump our pass D is gonna blow worse than last year
Gallimore - we have a need for quality interior DL play
Smith/LVE - I cheated and took either/or. One has to step and play well alongside Parsons
Kazee - If he scuffles, our safety position is a total wasteland. Amazing how thin we are there.
Gregory - He has to be able to get the QB, a lot, this year

Yep. I'd probably replace Urban or Bohama with Lawrence but I agree with this. You get it. The linebackers are the key and the DT's....are biggest weaknesses the past few years.

1. Brent Urban
2. Micah Parsons
3. Well, yeah, Brent again.
4. NaShon Wright - Just get ready for the next Richard Sherman. That is all I have to say about that.
5. Urban. C'mon, are you kidding me?

I agree with most of the names here. To add a bigger picture…I think the key for this defense turning it around will be in two areas:

1. Learning to play together as a unit. Last year they looked like the “Keystone Cops”, running into each other and constantly out of position. It was a complete embarrassment. Playing together as a unit instead of as individuals will greatly help this defense.

2. Have at least two impact stars emerge. This is something we haven’t had in far too long. Defensive players that the other team has to game plan for each week. Guys who force TOs and make plays when we need them. DLaw, Parsons and Diggs are the guys I see as most likely to fill those roles.

Who are the top 5 players that are key to our defense improving
Urban/Bohanna, Gallimore, Parsons, Neal, Diggs

it starts with run defense and pressure up the middle. urban/Bohanna (my pet cat) up front in stopping the run, by keeping the line, occupying OL men and allowing LBs to flow to the ball and stop the run.

Gallimore, in stopping the run and penetrating up the middle. pressure up the middle leads to a lot of sacks by DEs. you have to pressure the QB and not allow him to stop up into the pocket to avoid sacks.

Parsons, for a rooke is key, he is going to be all over the place, stop the run, drop in coverage and attack the QB and create havoc.....he has to have a good year and end up top 2 in defensive rookie of the year.

Neal, to shore up the shaky LB group. he can cover, he can defend the run and we just need to see it. he needs to be a 3 down LB

Diggs to shore up one side of the pass defense, allowing coverage to flow to the other side and provide help. he has to lock down his recievers and not allow any big plays..this allows the saftied to flow to the other CB spot and help out Brown or one of the rookies if they start
