I was hopeful he changed from what they said ended his GB tenure. Nothing last year made me feel positively about him and I’m coming to the feeling that he really doesn’t bring anything special to the table. If you took McCarthy out and had Moore run the Offense and Quinn run the Defense you wouldn’t miss a thing. Even with that being said I am willing to give him this year before I make a conclusion.

  • A “plugged-in” source tells Adam Beasley of PFN that it could be “NFC Championship Game or bust” for Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy in year two.
  • According to Beasley, there’s a sense around the NFL that McCarthy didn’t “wear particularly well in his first year with the Cowboys” and his job could be in jeopardy, barring a deep playoff run.
  • One other concern is that Beasley says there are some around the Cowboys who are a “bit dubious” about McCarthy’s coaching staff decisions. Beasley explains that McCarthy is a delegator and clearly wanted people around him he could trust to handle a larger workload.

Make the divisional round of the playoffs and still get fired? I'd be shocked.

People won't want to hear it but after a virtual offseason and now Hard Knocks, I won't really be able to blame McCarthy for a second losing season if it comes to that.

Giving him partial blame, okay, but do you think he really wants those cameras at training camp? He doesn't.

Every thread i semi-prognosticate in I voice my skepticism of Mike McCain. I just feel he's just another Jerry screw up coaching hire.
At least you state that is how you feel and not necessarily reality. Kudos.

Too many here act like their opinion is fact and they know it to be right… when it isn’t and they don’t.

Personally, I’m giving him this season before I make any decisions on if I think he’s a good coach for Dallas or not. Last year was all kinds of screwed up.

2021 should say a lot about McCarthy in Dallas.

Bingo!!!!!! He ( all NFL coaches IMO) gets a freebie for 2020. I will grade him hard after this season.

McCarthy got a raw deal as a new coach when the NFL responded to the pandemic. It made the process of him and his staff getting acquainted with the team and implementing their plans a whole lot harder. It's hard to honestly assess a coach's ability under those circumstances. So he'll get another opportunity to give us a first impression at many things a Head Coach for the Dallas Cowboys is expected to do... running a training camp in Oxnard, for example.

I think he gets this year and if it doesn’t go well they bring in Lincoln Riley. You can tell even just in the 20 minute media sessions this hasn’t been a good fit for him.

The expectation should be to win the division and for the defense to be stable.

I am not a huge fan of the MM hire, however every available coach we could have hired came with question marks, especially working with JJ and the media in Dallas.

MM has to navigate the Hard Knock nonsense now and still win the division in my opinion. No excuses and that includes injuries as well.

What the hell? If you admit he gets this year then quit knocking the guy and give him a chance. The circumstances of his first year would be hard for any new coach to appear to fit in, so don't go thinking you are making a salient point by bringing it up. He's now on the clock under fairer conditions, so sit back and let the man do his damn job. At the appropriate time(which isn't now) you can pass judgment. However, you don't seem to be interested in giving him a fair chance. How do I know this? Because you have already named his successor in the certainty of his failure here.

McCarthy is done either way after this season unless the Cowboys just make the playoffs and lose. If they make the NFC championship game it will because of the offense and defensive improvement. Moore/Quinn would get all the credit. Moore would be the hot coaching prospect There is no way the Jones family would let the paper boy leave Dallas.

One thing is certain - if Dak has the worst season of his short career MM and the defense will get the blame.

Can't judge any coach's performance from a season like last year for the Cowboys. I do agree that McCarthy's judgment on staff picks deserves criticism and close scrutiny. If the Cowboys can't win the division this year and make a strong move for a spot in the NFC Championship game, McCarthy needs to go.

I'm 100% willing to give McCarthy time to prove he can be the guy. I just hope he is done trying to overly prove something. He came in last season kind of trying to swing his D around like his time away from football taught him some masterful football acumen with all his chances he was taking. Most of them blew up in his face from the start of the season in the Rams game. Just coach smart and get the team to play good football. Sure, we like chance, but he seemingly was trying to overdo it last season.

What's more likely?

A. Jerry has hired yet another coaching dud to go along with everybody outside of Jimmy and Parcells.
B. Jerry struck lightning in a bottle for a lucky third time (oh wait, that was Johnnie in a bottle)

Just play the odds and you rarely go bust.

Rivera and Judge had the same raw deal.

I hope MM is able to succeed this season. I also don’t want to see KM installed as the HC. That said— I don’t possess much patience for this FO or coaching staff after 25+ years of purgatory
Well we know that Moore is being given the Garrett treatment. Key here is if he is willing to bury the knife in between McCarthy's plump shoulder blades like Garrett did Phillips.

I could absolutely see MM getting canned if they go one and done in the playoffs. We all know JJ is ready to install Kellen as Garrett 2.0 as our HC of the future.
that is the only bad thing if MM gets fired lol.
However if Kellen was HC, and he hired a new OC, that might be ok, but I figure he would be HC / OC.

People say MM gets a break for 2020, but no one expected a 12-4 season after dak went down, but 9-7 was doable.
Also with dak he was 1-3 :( and the one win had nothing to do with MM, just a lucky ST play.

I mainly judged him on his in game decisions, which were off the chart bad and crazy at times.

Still he is getting this season, so he gets another chance.
I just agree with broadus that he doesnt bring much to the table.
