This is not the Marinelli 4-3 DEF

The media (see Jane Slater question at Dan Quinn's press conference ) seem to be implying that Quinn's DEF will be similar to our DEF 2013-2019. People such as Demarcus Ware have mentioned a return to the 4-3 we have run in the past. I might be wrong but I think this is a misunderstanding. I think Dan Quinn knows that type of DEF won't work consistently enough in todays NFL and I fully expect a great deal of variety. I understand the similarity with the gapping, but nearly every player we have signed or drafted has experience in a 3-4 system.

I expect us to be 3-4 on early downs 4-2-5 about 60% of the time and a combination of other fronts when needed.

Thoughts guys?

my thoughts are the early reports in camp suggest there hasn’t been much 3-4 alignment

To the main point of the thread, Dan Quinn specifically said that this defense isn’t the same as Rods. He discussed some similarities but specifically made a point to emphasize that they aren’t the same

Pete Carroll is a disciple of Monte Kiffin but he changed the defense up with standing up one of the DEs and introduced some two gapping by the strong side end and the 1 tech/nt along with coverage changes in the backfield. Quinn will still run this defense but he at least sounds like he may have tweaked it a little more. But the seattle defense is still considered a 4-3 it just looks a lot like a 3-4.

I honestly don't quite know what to expect, although, the players seem to be buying into Dan Quinn's methods admirably. That's usually a good sign and appears to bode well for the players to respond well in their effort to make this defense work. That's always a key element in any successful defense.

Quinn seems to favor a d-line that's able to impede the run much better than what Rod Marinelli's could. Let's also take note if the defense is able to be versatile enough to cause the opposition some confusion and be far less predictable than in previous years. More turnovers would be a welcomed sight, also. Hopefully, that should materialize with a somewhat more talented secondary.

From the Dan Quinn playbook ...

Jump up and down
and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hands on the ground
Take one step left
and one step right
One to the front
and one to the side
Clap your hands once
and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this
then you're doing it right

Both CZ posters Plasticman and BobHaze have done impressive past stat posts that focused on QB sacks and interceptions.

In reading those, I came to the conclusion that whatever scheme, coordinator or personnel can get a top 10'ish type performance in those 2 categories will correlate directly to more wins.

Hopefully Quinn's version gets picks and sacks. Marinelli's didn't.

'Bout what I got.

Quinn's scheme is evolving with the times. It's not going to be as vanilla as Marinelli's was. Front 7 will have a lot of different looks, he is determining how to employ these current players to play more towards their strengths.

My exact reaction.

No need to label it, just play.

Did the Hawaii move happen yet?
Getting closer. Still doing some remodeling before listing my house Sept 1st. All the contractors here in San Antonio have an 8-10 backlog. Good for them but bad for me. They should be starting mine in another 10 days.

Good. Hope it won't be a distraction during the season.

We have a championship to win!

1) Clapping went out with Garrett. Players and fans hated it.
2) Not sure this beats Jaylon and Company performing last years’ plan:

You put your right foot in,
You put your right foot out;
You put your right foot in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey-Pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about!
