Give McCarthy credit

If your definition of a fan is this, the only question i have is: is there any kind of argument to change your mind ?

if you really wanted to change my mind you’d stack good days of posting about loving the game of football and posting the right way.

They didn't like Landry. Not the fans. Not the press. Not the players.

The players would make fun of him...."Coach Sliderule"....he always carried a tape with him to measure a player's distance from the sidelines or some other certain spot. The press roasted him during his first five seasons, they wanted him fired

And then he became "the Great Innovator". His quotes are memorized not only by coaches around the world but by businessmen, military men, and politicians. His statue greets you walking into AT&T stadium.

What changed?

The Cowboys began winning. They kept winning. They won for a very long time.

Let's cut to the chase. Fans don't like Garrett because he didn't take the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. If Garrett had taken the Cowboys to 2 or 3 Super Bowls and won 1 or 2 then his clapping would have been an acceptable nuance. His oft repeated phrases would go down as quotes.

McCarthy will get credit when he earns it. He will surely get the blame and hate if he fails to take the Cowboys to a Super Bowl. Even if he gets the Cowboys to the Super Bowl that only gives him a reprieve until the Cowboys win at least two. He'll most likely retire after that but if he wanted to stay, he's got about a 3 year window to win another Super Bowl.

That's the way it is because that's the way fans are.

The players hated Landry - including #12.

Landry was cold - robotic - unemotional and detached.

Unwavering

It bit him in Danny White era .

Doesn’t mean I don’t love the man though.

Landry lost a lot of big games 3 NFL Title games 3 Super Bowls - he shouldn’t have lost any to be honest.
3 straight NFC title games in the 80’s and the

Billy Waddy game in 79 in Dallas - a brutal
Loss where Landry stayed in a 3 man rush the entire 2nd half.

Also the Eric Dickerson game in Dallas.

Fans got impatient that Tom would never get us there / in fact they called us tomorrow’s team before America’s .

Let me also add to first post; I like the Ben McAdoo hire.
He’s an excellent OC and turned the Giants around , he also went 11-5 in his first year as HC.
This is a perfect behind the scenes guy needed in today’s league.
I’m sure he’ll be involved in gameplanning with Moore.
Yeah, I forgot He was added to the staff. That was a good move.

Same here!! I totally forgot he was added to the staff. It does feel like we have some good pieces on the coaching staff. Let's see if they can put it all together.

So you sign a HC for his press conferences ?

OK.

At least its your money. Isnt it.
Where did he say that? Why are some of y’all such d-bags to others here. He said give ups to the coach for good pressers. Nothing else!!!

I think some are missing the point here. The guy is honest with the press, even with the tough questions. I would imagine that means he's honest with his team, staff, and most likely himself. That's a level of accountability that's been missing for quite some time. Will it translate to more wins? Not a clue....but it beats the heck out of playing the politician all the time.

Unlike Garrett who probably felt threatened by consultants like Dan Reeves. Mike welcomes Ben's input.

No I'm not happy with a HC who brings absolutely nothing to the team and is a downgrade from the previous HC.

Jason Garret.

85 wins

67 losses

sorry but those teams should have gone 105-47. coaching brought them down. probably more because a better coach wouldn't have allowed the assistants to push for players who were complete busts.

Yup....Still having a hard time getting over the fake punt...4th and 11 from inside our 30....Worst decision ever by a football coach.

worse than Garrett punting when your only option to win the game was to go for it? don't think so.

can't explain some of Mike's decisions last year but my guess is that he was feeling pressure from owners to get into the playoffs because for them that would have been a huge win to A) make more money B) to validate their coaching decisions & C) have some success in spite of all the bad luck (injuries, pandemic, etc.) to talk up & set the stage for this year.

Im not sure why MM gets so much flack, did the best he could with horrible circumstances..look around the league last year who pulled off more then mm with similar situation,..

SF nope as mater of fact this place was all over KS but his record outside of the Sb year when he dealt with major injuries is horrible has losing record..

BB last year with NE what 7-9 wow

Everyone lauding over Rivera their choice for our team over MM, hmm 7-9 seriously

The rest of the east lol right

Now go look around the league at the exact stations oie new staff for 2020 and the amount of injuries..I’d say MM had it worse and not sure any of the teams with all new staff and any major injuries did any better..

Last season a mulligan and id like to see Mm have fair shot with healthy roster and then we can judge him HERE with US.....

Yes crazy calls and some weird plays but IMHO this was desperate times called for desperate measure and he and his coaches just threw it all in including the kitchen sink because they pretty much knew that was the only way to have shot.

I doubt that happens in games with complete roster and not constantly down by 3 scores and just not many plays to overcome that IMO..

Not sure what the stink is anyway I thought solemnly. Of you wanted a tank job well those games lost over questionable calls etc we lost them so there you go if he played closer to the vest maybe we do win one more game win the division and go to the playoffs and have worse draft slots etc

It happened bad year for all..

Move on,..IMHO unless he does something to embarrass the organization he will get 3 seasons to prove himself..thats only fair..

He gets flack because the team sucked last year and he was a big part of why.

Disagree fact is he did the best he could with trash he had..like i said no coach did any better over the years with similar situations.

Talent more then coaching wins in this league and we basically played with 3rd string team=3rd string results..

What do you mean no coach did any better? Giants and Commanders did a far better coaching job than McCarthy did. I don't even care what the Cowboys record was.....that was some of the worst coaching you will ever see in this league. Worse than Dave Campo and Jason Garrett. I've never seen coaching that bad between Mike Nolan and McCarthy. Embarassingly bad. No one is saying he should've won 13 games but it was piss poor effort week in and out and they looked unprepared even when the team was relatively healthy.

I think we need to give McCarthy a pass on last season.
No camp , no fans , players missing etc.
He never looked comfortable on that sideline.

We’ve brought in a helluva football man in Dan Quinn and I loved our draft and FA haul.

McCarthy has a Ring - I don’t care who the QB was under him - a Ring takes everyone on board.

Give this guy 16 games and then let’s revisit.

OP 100% agreed , he’s not a tap dancer - he faces the questions straight on.

I’m a fan and I think we’re gonna be damn tough to beat.
I would agree except for one point

He actually hired Mike Nolan.

Unforgivable. See ya, Mike.
