We all have that sinking feeling about the OL

Hard to say. On a couple of podcasts, I heard his lateral quickness that he used to have isn't there, which is completely understandable. I've also heard chatter about him having a bone on bone condition. It's too early to say what kind of season he'll have, but there's enough creeks going on along the offensive line to warrant a heavier investment in next year's draft.

IMO our starting OL doesn't look good right now. This could be because it has been awhile since they played. Or it could be because they're getting older. I don't know. But we'll find out soon enough. Our interior on the defensive line is another question mark. So I'm guessing OL in the first round next year. Dallas doesn't do too well after that with OL.

yes but how much do Martin,Collins and Tyron make per year combined? I am guessing around 60 mil.
They need to earn it.

Martin, Collins, and Tyron combined make less than Dak. The three combined make about $35M, my guess.

I think Elliott makes more than Martin, Collins and Tyron. Cooper definitely does.

I wanted to believe 2020 was an aberration for the OL. But it's looking clear that age and injury are catching up. Maybe we'll somehow nurse things through the season and not become a major liability. I just hope we go OL hard and early in next year's draft. Time to rebuild!
I'm not worried about the talent on the OL, just injuries. The talent is as good as any

Tyron has been constantly injured for years now. Before last year he didn't miss a ton of time but he was always hurt. Always. Collins very similar which for a younger guy is concerning. I think our OT situation is something we should have sured up with a better backup because those two are both huge injury risks IMO. The team has completely failed at this for years. We have brought in a veteran swing tackle for how many years in a row now, but these old OTs who were playable at best in their prime have proven to no longer be playable once we signed them at their advanced age and we keep doing it without learning and I think it could derail our season unless one of the young guys steps up. I think Nsekhe looked a little better on the right side last game but will get beaten badly if starting LT. Steele was absolutely horrible last year but had no offseason and first year guy so hopefully improves a ton. I thought Knight was OK for a young guy, but not really good either. My hope is Ball will be the guy and that is why I think he will be on the initial 53 and then moved to the PS so we can bring him back when healthy. Either that or they do what I would like which is kick Martin out to OT if injury strikes and play both Connor's at OG.

But, the rest of the OL I think is less of an injury risk than the average team. Much less actually. Martin is the only older guy and he had his first injury problem since he got here.

The QB can help an old line. Dak has to make his reads quick and get rid of the ball quickly he can't be sitting back there like he used to and hold on to it and look left look right take his time. Dak is finally going to get to see what Kirk Cousins has been dealing with his time in Minnesota.

Nope....I'm more concerned with our interior defensive linemen. Their ability to take up blocks is key to letting our LBs fly around. I think they will send more LB blitz to make up for it.
Instead of asking for the DT to get penatration and play two gap at the same time... wouldn't a simpler D line plan (especially in the middle) allow our guys to focus better and hopefully execute better? I like the DE's and the additional speed we added at LB. I believe playing a one gap system, especially early, will be important. But then again, I am just some dumb internet guy. Lol.

And Zack is not yet 30 so he is only technically older. Tyron is the one with the mileage.

Like hell it was.. They produced 3 rushing champs in a 5 year span and got Darren McFadden out of mothballs to 1000 yards in only 10 starts and just for good measure helped Alfred Morris average nearly 5 ypc. In their primes they were simply the best in the game. When it was Free, Zack, Fredbeard, Leary and Smith there was simply no stopping the Cowboys running game. The only thing that could stop them from ramming it down a team's throat was Scott Lenahan.
Jason Garrett could stop them. Who can forget his stubborn refusal to use play action passes to take advantage of our great rushing attack?

For the sin ALONE of forcing Cowboy Nation to suffer with Garrett that long, Jerrah deserves hell.

I have a sinking feeling about this team in general. Who goes 6-10 and makes no major FA acquisitions?

All my criticism is tackle based.

Im okay with Williams, Biadasz as starters and McGovern and even Farniok(in his one game that I watched him that is) as backups on the interior.

I am not okay with Nyseske, Steele or Knight. But I also do not have a ready made list of the replacement options for these backup players.

I think if these tackles are forced into any extended playing time that the film will reveal that these tackles poor performance contributed greatly to team losses. Possibly even the primary reason.

Hmm...there comes that sinking feeling again....

I'm not worried about the OL at this point with regards to the season.

Not having Martin is a concern for this game but my focus is really on winning the other 15 games.
- The Cowboys need 2 or 3 games to come together especially with Dak missing must of camp and all of the preseason games.

  • The Cowboys might be at their worst for game 1 regardless of opponent.
    • Dak missing the preseason and much of camp.
    • New D-Coordinator with many news starters.
    • More games should be more time to come together, especially for a young defense.
    • They were terrible last year. The only direction is up as the season progresses.

  • The Bucs might be at their best for game 1 regardless of opponent.
    • An off-season of rest for their many old starters is probably more important to them than more reps together.
    • More games might just be more wear and tear on a older roster.
    • They are the SB champions. They can only maintain or decline as the season progresses.

My concern is quantity of injury issues.

Obviously LT is the hardest to replace but they can manage if any 1 starter is out.

If they lose a 2nd starter then it becomes very difficult to manage.

Very true.
I will be curious to see how this staff adjusts their game planning and putting the right player in the right position to succeed philosophy.

As you said, since this first game only has one starter OL loss, there shouldn't be total offensive dysfunction.

I will be watching to see if their personnel decisions and strategy adjustments make sense.

Like others I think DL is going to be a bigger need after 2021. But Connor Williams is a FA and we have to see what Biadasz looks like for a full season. So maybe it is a big need next year. Plus Gallimore supposedly made a big leap before his injury, and Odighizuwa looks like he could be a surprise too. Still they need a dominant DT.

I am not worried but I do not expect them to be healthy and dominant. That ship has sailed. I am not worried because my expectations are based on reality.
