I believe Ron Rivera & Washington were targeting Parsons as their draft pick but Jerry got a whiff of this early on and took on some of Rivera’s mentality about importance of defense.

Last time Rivera took a LB he was the best one in the league and this might come true for Dallas. The year before Rivera took Kuechly the Carolina defense was ranked 28th in league and the year after the draft it jumped to 10th.

If it wasn’t for Dallas, Parson would hav slipped all the way to Washington turning that defense into truly elite one.

Jerry and the FO have drafted a lot of defensive players before and after Rivera so taking Parsons had nothing to do with Ron or WFT.

Jerry drafted average defensive players (Ware was a coach pick) They never drafted anyone that is a difference maker or truly elite.

So you think Washington wanted Parson, just a gut feeling and no proof? I'm closing this thread.

Why don’t you let Jerry answer the question during media session. Nobody reveals their source!

Your original comment was, "... Jerry got a whiff of this early on and took on some of Rivera’s mentality about importance of defense."

Jerry and the FO has invested a lot of draft capital on the defense, so they clearly understand the importance. Their success rate has not been as good as we as fans would like.

The only year they cared after realizing Rivera’s plan and seeing that defense play vs Bucs and seeing Bucs defense vs supposed football god Mahomes.

4-3 scheme over 3-4 all day!

How many All-Pro defensive players has he drafted vs offense?

Jesus, are you actually inferring that after months and months of scouting that we took a guy at #12 overall in the draft because we thought Washington liked him? Come on...

Their defense would still not be elite with Parsons. They are way over rated. The front 7 is very good, like the Eagles' was at one time, may still be. But the secondary and overall is not in the elite category.

Good to great offenses scored a lot of points on them. Bad offenses they only looked elite.
How many fans on here actually seen the WFT play other games than the 2 against our 4th team players last season or maybe one or 2two other games. So they have nothing else to compare.

However they could improve this season, as we think our D will improve, So will need to wait and see.

This organization drafted Parsons by accident. There was no master plan to grab this kid, none. They wanted one of the 2 top CB's and thought they could mess around and still get him.

Dallas got their board whiped and traded back for Parsons.
Dallas got their #1 ranked defender and Golston over what would have been IMO a lesser player even though CB was a slightly bigger need. Parsons is the guy I wanted all along so for me this was a perfect scenario even if Golston never amounts to anything. I liked Surtain and would have been fine with him if we went that route, but I think Horn is going to be a disappointment and wanted no part of him at #10 overall

I’m not mad about what Dallas did but stop acting like it was some master stroke genius plan to get the player they wanted.

They settled for Parsons.
