First thought is it was nice to have a game that was not a nail-biter. Every now and then a blow-out is good for the fans.
But I never take too much away from games like this. The Cowboys played a great game and were clearly prepared. Every game is a new game where anything can happen.
The #1 positive coming out of this game is the heart the Cowboys showed. Coming into a division game with 9 guys unavailable I expected the worst. Boy, was I wrong. This team showed the spirit that has been missing for years. It is what they need to win a championship. Not sure where it comes from but they need it every game.
Zack Martin is the best OG in the league. I know there are arguments to be made for other OGs but he is playing like a monster this year. On the 4th down QB sneak that failed (I thought he was in) Dak tried to push in behind Biadasz. He should have slid over and gotten behind Zack. He would have scored easily.
Dak is an elite QB right now.
Zeke is still good but I am not ready to say he is worth $15 million.
Osa Odighizuwa is going to be a really good player. Micah Parsons is already a really good player. The 2021 draft could be exceptional if Kelvin Joseph turns out to be any good.
Dalton Schultz is so much better than Blake Jarwin. I never understood all this hype about Jarwin. Schultz is outplaying him in every facet of the game. Too bad he is a free agent after this season. They are going to miss him. Someone is going to offer him a bundle and the Cowboys will not be able to afford to keep him.
I admit I had serious reservations about Terence Steele filling in for Collins, but he has surprised me two games now. He went against a pretty good DE last night and held his own. He made one mistake I saw that led to a sack of Dak but otherwise he was a force in the run game on a number of plays.
The defense played as a team and that is why they were so successful.
Diggs is a shockingly good CB. Also something the Cowboys have been missing for years.
On the negative side, I have been saying since training camp the combination of Connor Williams and Biadasz was my biggest concern on offense. The two linemen have the same weaknesses and the same strength. But Vita Vea showed the weakness. Linval Joseph did too, and last night both Cox and Hargrave bullied Williams and Biadasz on passing downs, once causing a fumble for a TD in the end zone. This problem is not going away. Williams has shown this weakness since he was drafted so he is not getting any stronger. Biadasz is only in his second year so maybe there is hope. But every big strong tackle in the league is going to use the same bull rush to push these guys into Dak's face on passing downs. Both Williams and Biadasz were on the backs numerous times in the game. Williams had 3 holding calls. At some point this is going to be the difference between a win and a loss. Maybe it already was in the Bucs game. If I had to make a prediction, it would be that next year neither of these guys is starting for the Cowboys.
Otherwise, what a great night for the Cowboys.
