CB is the only position that looks like it could use an upgrade and Bossman might be the answer.

Hard to trust a rookie that missed most of training camp. I'm thinking if the Pats wanna trade Gilmore...maybe that could be a possibility. Other deals.....

Lonnie Johnson...Hou
Rock Ya-sin....Colts

Not much out there....:(

Our downfall is not going to be talent. Our downfall will be because of coaching.
You can bring in another D playmaker, but our coaches are going to make a decision that will cost us in the playoffs.
Watch.
Coaches are like players, they are always trying to get better. Jerry’s going to be on MM’s *** about his atrocious time management so far. MM is going to get better. I expect he’ll assign some coach to be a voice in MM’s ear going forward on what is the best thing to do. I know you like to always be negative. It is who your are. But this is a different team. A different coaching staff. Get on board instead of predicting failure after game 3. It’s a horrible look for your Cowboy fandom.

A horrible look to you, maybe. Others embrace the diversity of thoughts and opinions that an eclectic forum like this brings.

Right. Just like I offered to you. You’re on record that the coaches are going to cost the Cowboys a chance at a championship. After game 3 when the Cowboys are 2-1 without 5 starters on defense and should be 3-0 but for an inconsistent kicker. So you’re going to go through the rest of the 14 games in the belief that the Cowboys have no chance because of the coaching. That my friend, is sad.

I think with the way our cap is set up, about the best that we could hope for would be to trade a 3rd round pick for an impact player that you KNOW you are going to be able to get a 3rd round comp pick for or that you would resign.

Other than that maybe a late round pick for a DT. I would be tempted to stand pat. What I would not do is jack up our cap to bring in someone that is going to make the cap even more too heavy than it is. We need to keep the picks to even out the labor costs.

So generally speaking I don't like the idea of trading picks for players. The Cooper trade did work in our favor though.

I wasn't keen on some of the trade possibilities people were tossing around during preseason, but now I'm coming around because:

1. the Cowboys are almost certainly headed to the playoffs.

2. the Cowboys are almost certainly not as good as the Bucs or the Rams.

Sure I believe the Cowboys can beat either of them, but IMO those two teams (and maybe GB, but I haven't seen enough of them to be sure) are better. However I don't think the Cowboys are that far off.

I think if I were in the FO I'd seriously consider trading for an elite defensive player, assuming there's one to be had. I don't know if I'd want to part with more than a 1st and a 2nd but given the possibility of losing guys like Gallup to free agency I'm willing to part with some future draft capital to improve the defense, even if it means only a short term (1 or 2 year) rental of a great player.

Nothing is certain after just 3 weeks. The Cowboys are not 1 player away, they need another draft or two to rebuild the defense.

And this right here are the facts that people either don’t know or want to willfully ignore. The Cowboys have significant cap issues, this year and next. But many fans don’t want to consider that because it rains on their parade and crushes their dream trade scenarios.

This ain’t Madden, where you can switch off your salary cap. Dallas is already projected to be over next year’s cap by a wide margin. And that’s before even considering keeping their own guys, much less adding to it.

Bottom line is that they could potentially trade for young and cheap, on a rookie deal - at best. And there aren’t too many of those out there anyway.

Closer to the trade deadline would be the time to evaluate how close you are & what you need. I don't know that I'm giving up a lot though.

Have you looked @ the depth chart? Our defense played pretty darn good the other night...and we were missing 9 guys. 9 guys...is not a typo.

Not taking anything away from this group, but also not naive to think this defense is just 1 player away.
