Ok, so I am looking at buying my first motorcycle.

I have ridden dirt bikes and quads before. So I have some experience with shifting on that type of system etc.

but this will be my first street bike, riding on the roads.

I have been looking at the Honda Rebel 500

I also have been looking at the Kawasaki Vulcan 650.

I sat on the rebel 500 at the bike shop and I thought it was a little too small. I am 6’1” with relatively long legs.

the Vulcan 650 felt more comfortable.

I’m hoping to get a starter bike that is easy to learn on and good for just cruising around and enjoying the road. But also hope it’s something with enough power that once I do get comfortable I don’t get bored quickly.

Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas or their own experiences to share?

When I was going to buy one several years ago, I was going to start with the Honda Rebel as well.

The only issues I found with it was the height and the top highway speed.

I also considered the Vulcan as well but ended up deciding against getting one because of the bad drivers where I lived at that time.

So you did buy the rebel?

If it is not a Harley it is a bicycle with a motor on it:yourock:

@Reality? How tall are you and how did you feel on the rebel on longer rides? I like the rebels a lot and how they look. But I just felt like my legs were at a 90 degree angle and didn’t know if that would get uncomfortable over time.

Buy used and especially if you are going the mid sized 500-650cc route.

Less investment and if you shop smart you can sell the bike 1-2 years later
for almost what you paid for it when you want to step up in comfort, style,
size, or power. Or if you just don't like it as much as you thought you would.

after a 20 year hiatus I restarted on a dual sport 400cc.

then moved to an 1100cc (quick bike) after a while then to an 1150cc (comfort bike)
as I was doing longer and longer trips.

I've never heard of the term starter bike in regards to motorcycles. As expensive as they are, get the one you think will be with you forever IMO. Unless you're filthy rich, then buy 4 or 5 of them :D

th

I got one with a side car that I use as a cooler. You ride one of these and the cops don't care if you park in the handicapped spaces at the liquor store. In fact, they prefer it.

This was a step up from a Schwinn with playing cards in the spokes. Hey, beats making motor sounds with my mouth, doing that and pedaling is tiring.

My starter bike was a 1200cc Harley Sportster.
I rode it for 3 days and traded it in for a Harley Fat Boy with the biggest V-Twin motor they made.
The silver chopper is my weekend bar hopper and panty dropper.

The silver one reminds me of the chrome bike in Stewardess School.
