RELEASED Jaylon Smith released

He’s not special
But he will get signed for money more in line with the talent he has now and that’s a bunch less than he was getting here
Oh for sure. I think a less inflated salary and a smaller market will do Smith well.

I didn't see this coming and was wrong that he would be on the roster next season but he didn't even make it through the year.

I believe he is an average LB that could be upgraded so unless they are signing a guy or making a trade.........Jabril Cox is getting ready to take over.

Again, i was wrong about him staying on the roster. Huge surprise and Dallas sent a message today with this cut.....if true

Yeah, you were wrong.

No more ground swipes! No more ground swipes *dances*
How about throwing up the X . . . with Jaylon . . . just one more time
giphy.webp

Yep, so we already see what is transforming. The Jaylon apologists are going to hate on Cox and point out every mistake he makes when he does get out there. They will claim that Jaylon would have made the play.

Cowboys fans...........unreal.

Yeah, it's all totally predictable. I am not sure how much some of these people can be educated. Fight the good fight I guess....I am just happy that we are FINALLY seeing something we haven't seen in a loooong time.

Good luck to Jaylon, this move was surprising, but I don’t get emotionally attached to players like some posters in the thread. But every time I saw him line up on a back it gave me chills. So I understand the move.
I get it knowing he had such a huge injury guarantee
I wish him well and hopefully he plays many more years

Because I’m March you had no idea how anyone I. This team was going to respond and play. Now that you know, you make the necessary changes.

Seriously? They had ‘no idea’ how a guy they were committing $7 million to ‘would respond and play’? Even MORE reason not to do it then.

I bet the #9 jersey isn't available at his next stop. Now I'm curious who will be our next #9.

what the hell have we seen from Cox that makes you think he is an improvement over anyone

When you say “we”, you mean us non football professionals that actually do not do this for a living. Is professionals that are not at practice and not in the meeting rooms. Us professionals that actually don’t know what the assignments are and if they are being executed to give an accurate assessment. You mean us?

Radio says Clavin Watkins said it was a football based decision only! BAM
Don’t understand why this is so difficult for some that they are creating fake scenarios about an argument or him being upset over a lack of playing time.

Super simple stuff. He gets hurt the we owe him 9.2M in a year where we are already in the red salary cap wise. Playing a guy limited snaps isn’t worth the risk of major injury. You already made a mistake resigning him, so why prolong it even further/chance a worse mistake? Once the team was able to be confident about the play of other LB’s then Jaylon became expendable. Plus they see Cox in practice and probably have a strong idea about his readiness. He was very good in the preseason.

People who question why we didn’t keep him for depth or bench him incase injury are out of touch with the reality of football. Even if you’re paying him, you don’t just ice him if he’s healthy. You release the guy and let him get a chance to play. Other than the end of a season when a team is already out of contention, no one just sits healthy vets for 12 games. Give the guy a chance to move on to a new team.

Plus Smith is obviously the slowest LB on the team while having issues playing gaps. Gifford and Bernard offer higher upside at this point.
