I don’t know why it took until him being cut for me to realize this, but the reason why he has such a big ego and head is due to the hardships and stress he endured when he got injured in college. He was one of the best LBs in college and a sure fire 1st round draft pick only to blow out his leg during the last game of the season. That would take a toll on anyone’s mental health. Personality wise, I Think he forced himself to believe in himself 150% and work twice as hard as everyone else just to get a chance to see the field again at the pro level. That, coupled with a very good come back year in 2018 and the huge contract - the ego shot up through the roof and it created a persona unable to be self-aware even when playing poorly.

That being said I admire his dedication and what he went through but at the end of the day football is football and if you can’t play football then get the hell out

So why wouldn't we trade him?
Please don't say he was untradable.

Although we knew he was overrated, he was one of the league's top tacklers on paper.
I'd think we could get something.

Can we assume he was butthurt over losing time?

No one is picking up the remainder of his contract for this year ($7M) and the injury guarantee for next year ($9M). He will get vet min if he can find a team willing to hire him.

Right now LVE is wondering where he'll be next year...

It’s a sign of a coaching staff constantly self-evaluating and looking for ways to improve, regardless of win-loss record. A refreshing change in Dallas.
Nothing to do with the coaching staff if I had to guess. I wish I was drinking some of the Kool aid that you have laying around. Just joking, I have a low opinion of the front office, and I would be happy if your perspective is indeed correct

Book it right now....he's your starter in the middle. Wouldn't shock me if he got extended in the next couple weeks.

No chance LVE gets extended in my opinion. Not with how he has been playing this year.
Now, if he wants to sign a very friendly low amount, he may sign. I'm thinking $2-3M/year.

I'll remember the video of the call when he was drafted. Only wished him to succeed after that, but it's clear he can't get back to a hundred percent from his injury and he's lost something.

But he was guaranteed like $36 million so he'll be alright.

What are the cap implications with this? I assume there’s water money for this season, are there any savings? What about for upcoming seasons?

I can't read all the replies but get some on here think there is more to the story, ie, in trouble, etc. I think if this was the old Cowboys that is a likely story, Jaylon seems to be a good teammate and a great person so I don't see it. What I and others think is this team has realized we are going places and have pieces that fit the puzzle better. This, as well as it puts every single player on notice to step...(ahem Collins, et al)

If Wilson continues to play well as the 3rd WR then Cowboys should entertain the option of moving Gallup but only if a team is willing to send back a 2nd in the trade. Wouldn’t go for anything less because most likely whoever Gallup signs with is going to net Dallas a 3rd or 4th compensatory pick. If you can’t get a 2nd for Gallup then might as well use Gallup as the 3rd WR and deep threat and then just take the compensatory picks in 2023.

A 2nd is what I said. Anything less isn't worth it. Right now cooper is playing hurt. If we play a defensively tough team and cooper misses that only leaves Wilson, CD, the 2 tight ends. That's alot of pressure and a very short rotation of good players. Gallup ensures we have good depth and being able to hit defenses in waves of good players is never a bad thing. Now if we were a 3-8 win team then yes a trade is worth it. But unless the wheels fall off we should be able to compete at a high level.
