I'm gonna miss this kind of stuff. It provided comic relief but I'd rather the cowboys win. Quinns probably looking at the film and wondering if the guy thinks he can fly or just has poor stereoscopic vision.:facepalm:

I am shocked, but only that they actually pulled the trigger and that they did it now. But I'm not at all shocked that it happened.
He just couldn't get back to where he needed to be. They brought in several new guys who are already better or are going to be. Neal, Parsons, Cox and even LVE came after him and was better.

I know they were trying to trade him but couldn't get what they were hoping for and at some point, if you're just going to release him anyway, I would think you'd be willing to take anything, that anyone would be willing to give you, right? So to me it's very telling when you didn't anything at all in return, not a mid-rd pick, not a lessor player, not even get a 7th rd draft pick for a guy who was a 2nd rd pick, is still very young, a team captain, the teams leading tackler the past 2 years and a pro bowler just 2 seasons ago. That says all you need to know about the situation right there IMHO.

The sad part is he is such a great guy off the field and a team leader. He will be missed by many in that locker room. I'm sure Jerry is curled up on his yacht crying.

Good luck Jaylon, thanks for the time. May God open a new door for you.

Wow!! Already 66 pages in this thread about J. Smith!! I was just as surprised as the rest of you when I heard this. I'm still a little befuddled as to the timing of his release...only 4 games into the season. Oh well, I wish the young man good luck in his future endeavors.

You hope it don't upset chemistry when they're rolling, if numbers matter, he was the best rated lb out of LVE and Neal. Something is up. Here in Washington they want him bad
As we have been saying for the last 5 years . . . No Numbers do not matter . . . around here we use the "Clear Eye" View

(PS please let Jaylon go from America's Team to the Team with No Name . . . Guaranteed he costs them both games)

They are saving the money for something. There is a long list of players that there contract is up after this season.

As many have pointed out between J. Smith's poor play and the other players stepping up and his contract, Dallas didn't want to be on the hook to pay guaranteed money to Smith next season if he got hurt.

That said, I hope this sends a message to some of the overpaid veterans who aren't living up to their contracts (DLaw, Collins)

Trying to save money. We have a long list of players that are on the field now that have no contact next year. Gregory, LVE and Gallup. Kazee, Hooker, and others. Connor Williams. We gots no money.

It’s all about saving the 9 million he would be owed next year. That would kick in in not released. I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with Gilmore from NE as fans hope. More likely, it was a preemptive move to have funds for signing a couple guys who are on 1 year contracts.

That was a yes or no question. Rephrasing the Question.....What rank would you have LVE, as LB?
jack_webb_joe_friday_dragnet_1957.png

Again, other variables involved to say he is or isn't the 4th LB on the team. Regardless, he is playing good football and his contract isn't an issue so he isn't going anywhere whereas the same couldn't be said about Smith.

Neal and LVE are UFA after the season.

maybe Neal stays. There is a connection to DQ.

Dallas is still paying for Jaylon in 2022.

there is a dead cap hit of 6 mill.

per spotrac.

this is why we can’t have nice things .

6.8mil dead cap in 2022, but "savings" of 5mil due to his cap hit of 11.8mil for 2022.

Team was literally carrying him on their backs.
I forget who it was but I remember Jaylon hitting one of His teammates, that was lying on the ground, after the play was over. . . might have been Diggs or Parsons

Glad He is gone . . . He was gonna get a teammate hurt out there

If the Cowboys offered a trade and no other team wanted him, that means they saw the film and saw that Jaylon wasn't worth giving up draft picks or other players on their roster for, 31 other teams deciding not to get Jaylon is a big sign of how horrible and declined he has been as a LB for the last couple of seasons. Maybe some team with injury issues on their defense, will get him and maybe some defensive coach will get him to play decent again on another team. But, he was a reliability on the Cowboys and had to go.

Um….don’t get that. He’s been a decidedly average NFL linebacker this year playing a lower number of snaps. You already owe him all his money this season and you’re not going to get anyone better off the street.

Just seems like a pointless move that only hurts depth

Cowboys needed the roster spot. You have Neal coming back, you have Cox waiting in the wings to get more playing time, LVE, Gifford. Cowboys still loaded at LB
