I've heard people suggest that he could've got that wrist cleaned up some this year and he would've got his clause.

Hmmmm in other words, wait until the season starts to kick in the clause but he didn't wanna screw the team that way. If this is true, what a class act on his part.......

There's talk that Smith was all smiles in front of the camera, but a different person behind the scenes.

Either way, he was an awful 2nd round pick and all he's known for is swiping.

The Cowboys swiped left.

Interesting the perception Jaylon has around the league. Everyone thinks he got cut because a "fallout with Quinn" or because "they are deep at linebacker". But ultimately that's fans perception. Teams clearly didn't want to trade for him.

Because fans are dumb.

I'm saying a team may do it just to avoid having to compete for Jaylon. As a free agent he can listen to the offers but if traded even a late rd pick the team who takes him would likely get off cheaper.

I'm gonna miss this kind of stuff. It provided comic relief but I'd rather the cowboys win. Quinns probably looking at the film and wondering if the guy thinks he can fly or just has poor stereoscopic vision.:facepalm:

I’m cynical of anthing ANY media puts out and certainly anything on the internet. But honestly, I’m hard pressed to see that pic in any positive light. No bad camera angle, etc. Occam’s Razor applies here.

I go to 6 - 7 games a year and never watch individual players for critique. I’m there to just enjoy the game. But for some reason I spent a good amount of time at the Carolina focusing on Smith. He made a few, limited few, decent plays, but what I did see what so many have said. The dude just isn’t effective. Can’t run, does’t hold up to the physicality, etc.

Intersting that I pay attention to a player and he’s cut after that game.

I think it will have everything to do with cost, and return on investment.

I think Lawrence is still a very good player. The problem is that he's being paid to be great. That means big pass rush and corresponding sack production.

And who knows? He may turn it around and explode when he returns? If so, it would be hard to outright release him, but maybe a trade then becomes more attractive or they decide to keep him? But my point is, that unless things turn around, I think the team has to consider moving on and getting out from under a huge cap hit.
If he’s being paid to produce big sack numbers, then the Cowboys are stupid. He leads the team every year in pressures, but he is NOT a RDE going against the left tackles and pinning his ears back from the blind side. DLaw has always been one of the best LDEs, where his first job is to stop the run, then get after the QB. He never showed any sign of being a Demarcus Ware with speed and tremendous bend like the great pass rushers. He has been a stellar DE vs the run who also gets pressure on the QB. They definitely overpaid for that, but he was the only decent defender on the team for a long time.

Wow. I'm surprised. I was just starting to think he was going to rebound and be a lot better.

Do you think another team will pick him up?

It's hard to speculate for sure what might happen but it seems sure that any team that welcomes him will pay him far less. ;)

Of course, that's clearly obvious, although, Jaylon will still be well compensated by way of the guarantee he was awarded.

Once he was good enough to start, you just couldn't take that chance coz a season-ending injury would have guaranteed his 2022 salary.
If he gets hurt this season, next year's salary is guaranteed. That's why they're mentioning removing the injury clause in his contract.
That's the piece of info I was missing. Thanks

People bash Big Mike. I like the dude.
Don’t think it was MM decision at all . Heck , MM named Smith captain against the panthers last week !! He had no clue .
This is probably all Quinn whom advised Jerry of how slow Smith was among a defense based on speed running to the ball . Smith just could not hack it . Plus if they keep him have to pay 9.2 million next year !! No way . Let him go now and promote Cox and the new guys . jerry had to agree . This move gives them cap space for next year . Long overdue correction of an old Jerry mistake .
