My opinion of the best OL for the Cowboys

Who are the best 5?
How would you position them?

LT Smith
LG Williams, McGovern
OC Biadazz, McGovern
RG Martin
RT Collins, Steele

At RT, Collins has missed a full season plus 3 games now, he has to get some reps and get comfortable. You have see how much better LC is than Steele.

At IOL, my thought is if McGovern is , at least, even with Williams I'd like to see McGovern take over to get on the OL for this season and 2022. At C, Biadazz should get better, but if McGovern can play C Dak shouldn't get pressure in his face too often.

could be Collins last season with us.

he’s due 10 million in base next season.

Jaylon got cut for less. And he’s playing.

With the way Steele is playing, I feel like our best OL may be:

LT - Smith
LG - Collins
C - McGovern
RG - Martin
RT - Steele

I feel like this would get our best 5 on the field and help us with power players like Fletcher Cox.
Sorry I think u are playing fantasy football and projecting a bit.

We have not seen McGovern play center so it's a projection that he steps in and we are better. Biadasz may have had some issues with pass blocking against bigger DT three of which were all pros, but he is a very good run blocker.

Collins hasn't played guard in 4 years. So switch position and expect what? He is not martin a future HOFer.

And right now with all the complaints we are number 2 running and have given up only 7 sacks in 4 games.

Compare Steele this year vs last. Massive improvement. He did a great job against Bosa who is a stud pass rusher.
Maybe. Maybe not

Off season we complained about lack of OL depth. Now we are cutting players left and right.

Fact is we don't have to make any decision unlike Jaylon until off season. If he calls out and plays close to what he did before injury he is one of the better RTs in the league. And Steele is the swing tackle. A critical role on OL. 10M is a tad bit high but u want good players you over pay.

Now cut Collins and Steele starts and who is your swing tackle?

Let's not worry about something that's 8 months away.

Us he could be a trade commodity.

But didn't the coaches say just this week that he was coming along at center? They clearly aren't sold on TB or they wouldn't be giving so much in season practice to McG.
Wrong....they are needing a back up center. Perhaps not to replace Biadasz but to have a backup center and get him ready...it could be as some as rhat

Perhaps, but Jerry loves LC and he can still play...Jaylon was cooked. To your point, wonder what type of draft capital LC could bring in???

Two reasons:

1. I am afraid Connor or Tyler are going to get Dak injured due to the 1-2 times a game they get manhandled into Dak.
2. I want to be able to run against teams like TB when the whole world knows it’s coming. I think that will be a must if we make the playoffs.
Totally agree with our Best 5 Olinemen are not starting, but I disagree with who you posted as your Best 5.

Here is mine and why...

LT Tyron Smith (no doubt)

LG Connor Williams (McGovern has said he doesn't want nor like playing at LG. He prefers playing at RG. Plus, Connor Williams is still a very good blocker, aside from the 1 or 2 holds he commits whenever he gets bullrushed every other game or so. This is his last year with the Cowboys since he will be leaving in the offseason for better pay somewhere else. Might as well use him as much as possible this season.)

C Matt Farniok (I see a lot of technique flaws in pass protection from Biadasz. It will take at least another offseason for it to get fixed at least. I like Farniok's pass protection technique much better than Biadasz. Plus, Farniok is just as good and aggressive during run plays. Farniok seems more athletic, quicker and stronger. Watch our last preseason game this summer against the Jaguars. Farniok #68 played the whole game at Center. He totally dominated, especially against the Jaguars 1st team D who played the whole 1st Half and into the 3rd Quarter.)

RG Zack Martin (Enough said. Best Guard in the NFL.)

RT Terence Steele (La'el is still considered by most as our best RT, but Steele has shown he can replace him just fine without missing a beat. I've personally grown tired of La'el's shenanigans and missing games. We all now know he's also a pot smoker. Just a matter of time before his "smoking" gets worse. Plus, Steele has shown he's just as nimble on his feet, aggressive and willing to block downfield.)

MichiganCowboyfan asked me in a another post about shuffling some OL pieces.
Catch17 mentioned it as a question in another post as well.

I answered that in Madden fantasy mode I'd keep Steele at RT, LC to Williams LG spot and McGovern to Biadasz OC's spot.

Ain't none of us seeing player strengths and weaknesses in daily practices. Ain't none of us qualified OL coaches like Philbin.

He has actually coached up what I thought was a very poor, not replacement worthy player in Steele. So I'm as big a crow eater on Steele as there is.

So I guess I gotta trust Philbin and Moore to mask the interior weaknesses of the Williams/Badasz combo unless the performance level gets so negatively extreme that a change is mandatory.

From my own amateur eyes while watching games during short spurts of pass protection, I see these replacement options as needed.
BUT like I said at this point, I will hafta trust those whose job it is to know best.

really don’t get the #Biadaszhate.

we were lucky to draft him in the 4th round.

rimington trophy winners are usually drafted much higher.

Collins was the Cowboys' best RT. This isn't 2019 anymore. What have you seen from Collins last year and this year to say he is the best?

Collins quit on the team last year and played only one game this year due to stupidity and selfishness on Collins' part.
Some of you said the same about Tyron, how did that work out????

Cant disagree with being fortunate to draft him in the 4th.
But. just watching film on his pass pro anchor against DTs, shows to be lacking more often than not while his run blocking seems okay.
IMHO I think if the run game hadn't improved the way it has and the team was forced to pass more often, that he would be further exposed.
I'm just an amateur because I thought Steele was very poor based off last year and this year's preseason. So my cred might not be the best, lol.

He could just be in a slowly progressing developmental stage at this point in his career and is kinda baby stepping along at this point.
The regular Joe fans just don't know the subtle performance progress levels that the paid professionals coaching them do.
Like I said, I'm just a fan like the rest.
