He is a good player getting paid elite money. Dak Prescott was blasted for getting the amount that he is getting. Yet he is playing at an elite level.

What has Tank done lately? Where is he? He doesn't even put up stats like an elite player.

If we cut him or not, he is still not worth the contract that he's got. Maybe we can ask him to take a pay cut, so that we can afford Gregory, Kazee, and Kearse. But if he doesn't, it goes to show how bad his contract really is. At least Jaylon was on the field. Where is Dlaw now?
This doesn't even make sense. You bring up Dak for who knows what reason other than obviously your own agenda and then you trash Tank for being hurt. Dak was out hurt most of last year.
Then you bring up Gregory who has been the least dependable player on the team for years and missed more than half his time here. Then you bring up Jaylon also for who knows what reason. Jaylon is horrible. Tank is a very good player.

I d rather move number 11 around to create mismatches. As far as D Law goes, he needs to step up. The team should always be looking to improve the roster. Continue good drafts and that will take care of itself.

DLaw, I think he'll be on the team for this year and the next..then a trade or cut will happen.

Parsons is playing exactly where he's supposed too.

Gregory getting re-signed should be the #1 Priority in FA.

Cowboys should draft an Edge in the 1st round next draft no matter who plays DE.

Tank is a good player no doubt. But he is getting paid elite money. He isn't playing elite. Heck, he isn't even playing and he isn't playing right now.

Gregory is playing right now and he is consistent. Tank hasn't been playing consistent throughout his career. Only good season he had was his contract year where he did most of his production on one weak team the Giants.

My point isn't that Dlaw is a bad player. I think he is good. But he certainly isn't elite and should not be paid as such.

Dak got paid elite money. Dak is playing up to his contract. What has Dlaw done lately since his big contract?

Collins and Lawrence miss some time with injuries and some think they're not very talented players anymore. Also ready to trade Gallup after a few missed games. Last year it was Tyron and Dak. The last time we saw most of these guys was on a very banged up team, and on the defensive side of the ball they were in a poorly coached/schemed system. You'll be pleasantly surprised when they get back. Looking forward to D.Wilson's return as well.

Does Stephen Jones hold grudges? Remember when Tank was strategic when scheduling his needed shoulder surgery until he got a new deal? I bet you Zoners the Joneses remember Tank's tactics very well.

Tank is still a really good player. Right now he's the 2nd best DE on the roster behind Randy in my opinion and the Lion is thisclose to being as effective as Tank.

The Lion should play more DE snaps than linebacker. With a full offseason of DE focus, strength/conditioning, and more tutelage from DeMarcus Ware, I can see Lion transitioning from MLB to full-time DE opposite Randy as early as next year.

Given what happened with Jaylon Smith, I bet Stephen is gonna approach Tank for a paycut. He will either accept it or be released. Especially if his broken foot doesn't fully heal and allow him to be the Tank that received a $105M contract.

I may be off here, but I felt the idea is worth discussing. In an ideal world, we keep Tank and continue to have Lion used all over the place as the ultimate defensive chess piece. But Stephen is shrewd with that cap which could make Tank a cap casualty. Everyone saw how good the Lion looked when asked to rush the passer when Randy and Tank were out.

Thoughts?
The Lion?

Save $19 million in cash, plus get $8 million immediate cap relief? He's gone unless he plays at a pro bowl level when he gets back.

Has nothing to do with missing a few games.

Lawrence hasn't been worth his salary in years. His previous 2 years are mediocre, considering what he's being paid.

^^This. The Jaylon decision gives hope they will start making smart cap moves.

DLaw is not worth his contract. Gregory will be worth signing. You can probably cut/ trade DLaw and use the $8 million next year to keep RG.

Top 2 draft picks next year are Center and DE

True. You then add in 2 different surgeries this season, him being 4 years removed from his prime, and a near 20 million dollar cap savings if he's a post June cut (mind you the Cowboys are over next years projected cap currently with 6 starters not even under contract) and it's a no brainer choice

This is the big sticking point. If D-law is a post June cut it saves almost 20 million dollars, thats enough money to bring all 3 of these players back.

A high dollar DE whose 4 years removed from his prime or 3 starters ? (I'm pretty certain most would choose the latter)

This.

Our defense overall has been pretty pathetic the previous two years, and most NFL coaches can stop a single player on defense if there's not much else to worry about. Add in that our own coaching was subpar, and his lack of numbers is understandable but he's still a very good DE. Really sucks he got hurt when he did, because I think he would've had some very good games with the way the rest of the defense is playing. Is he worth every penny of his salary? Tough to say yes to that right now, but it wouldn't surprise me if he came back and started looking like a top five DE.

Lawrence was 10th in the league in pass rush win rate in 2020, and fourth in run stop win rate, while the Cowboys as a team were bottom five in both, so he was literally the only thing to worry about for other teams.

D-Law is safe until 2023…his dead cap would be crazy next season.

If they trade Lawrence before June 1 they still get a $8 million CAP save in 2022 and he is off the books in 2023. I think Lawrence would get some trade offers if the Cowboys put him on the market. It would be for a first round pick but I think it could be a 3rd. I think it all depends on how well Golston plays the rest of the year. If he looks like a player I think DLaw is gone at the end of the season. Even if they designate him as a June 1 cut, they get a $19 million CAP save in 2022 and $11 million dead money in 2023, still $18 million lower than his 2023 CAP number.
